For the longest time it was a laptop but I ended up building a mini atx desktop. It's a basic machine 1 gb GTX card, 16 gbs of ram and a i7 processor with a solid state.

I like the processing power which I need for my work.

Laptop. But if I get into GNS3, I will be building a desktop with a ton of RAM.

Desktop, but if my laptop was powerful enough i'd probably just use that w/ docking station (but i would need some storage like a NAS with raid if my main computer was a laptop)

I work off of a laptop, have it hooked into a dock when i'm home. It's a little Sager 11 inch gaming laptop, handles everything I can throw at it from games to multiple VM's in workstation.

I will always prefer a desktop over a laptop. Just more comfortable for me, and easier to upgrade. I am getting a pretty powerful laptop, but it still can't touch my desktop

I was a desktop only guy for years. Recently I have become laptop guy because my Lenovo Y510p with SLI totally rocks. However, I do have a media center pc that I use a file server. Gotta have a SAN or a server with a laptop. They just dont make 4TB laptop drives yet.

Dell Venue 11 Pro (usually) with dock on desk, mobile keyboard or no keyboard when off dock.. I also have an Ultrabook with dock on my desk. Theyre both hooked up to 3 monitors. Both running windows 8.1 update.

PC...easier to upgrade and mess around with. Can also dual screen and use at a desk nicely.

Not to mention the availability of more aftermarket parts.

My desktop died so I got a Macbook Air in college. The slim, lightweight design honestly was just like putting a paper notebook into my bag. So convenient. And I was interested in web design then, so I didn't need anything TOO powerful. Took me a while getting used to the small hard drive space, but taught me not to horde and to prioritize my data.

Now, I'm looking towards a new comp. Will look at a laptop with ample RAM (16Gb probably) and an SSD. Possibly the Mac Pro Retina, but I'm not too sure yet.

Whereas I miss the power of a desktop, I've gotten too accustomed to the convenience of bringing my work with me wherever I want and I now only use desktops as a secondary solution - mostly casual gaming.

A laptop I got just for school about 4 and a half years ago that is in much need of an upgrade, i3 and only 4GB or RAM. I bought a desktop last year that I was intending to use as my main machine but it didn't quite work out that way. The desktop came with Win 8 installed, played with it for about a month before I decided I was done with that mess, wiped it and have been using it to play around with different linux distro's.

I was also a PC guy for years (still prefer it actually, back when i was counter-strike pyscho laptop was not an option) but i have moved away from home so a laptop is a better solution for a smaller place, i just hate the small screen issues.

My daily driver is a 2013 Macbook Air. It's fine for spinning up a VM, surfing the web, taking notes, and using VPN or Xendesktop to support from home.

I also have a 27 inch iMac with 24 GB ram I use for video editing and file serving. A little over the top but it is very nice. I could run my copy of fusion there if I needed to do more intensive labs.

My home office is my laptop + lab. For media and gaming, I use a desktop.

Also, you can't really hook up 3-4 monitors to a laptop can you?

Currently the lab is hooked up to a desktop, 4 gigs ram, intel core duo extreme, 2TB hard drive, 8 port serial card, the books in kindle format sit right next to it, running on one of my laptops, so I can flip through the pages as I work on configurations, in addition there is another PC desktop with Ubuntu server running on it, and by this time on Tuesday there will be a Dell Poweredge 1850 running windows Server 2008 r2 set up and running through the system. I also have my Windows 8 Laptop sitting on the coffee table so I can jump back and forth looking at this website, the Cisco website and other various reference websites I use, I am also running Packet Tracer and GNS3 on my main desktop the lab is hooked up to. I also have a Asus Mini running my weather station that is hooked into the system so I can check the weather anytime I need to from any of my tablets or computers.

So the is 4 laptops, 4 desktops the extra desktop is my media server, 1 rack server and I have 5 routers and 5 switches in the lab.

Sure can... I'm not sure how many do but this one will... (it's under Trinity display)

I have an i7 desktop PC with 16GB RAM and GTX680 for gaming/studying/etc
and i5 server in my rack running ESX 5.5 and 32GB RAM

Lenovo y510p laptop with 16GB Ram and Dual NVidia SLI 750M cards in it.

Used to be desktop specific but this makes it easier for me to be upstairs and sit next to the Mrs if I want to game while she watches a movie.

I use a laptop - i5, 16gb, ssd. It is hooked to 3 monitors and external KB/Mouse at home. I use a UV Plus for the additional monitors, all HDMI.

It does what I need it to, but plan on building a powerful desktop for intensive use.

I have a Lenovo T440s laptop at work and at home I have a socket 1366 Corei7 desktop. When I want to sit on the bed and just browse the web I use the laptop but for everything else I use my desktop.

Desk top at work. Laptop at home ( work provided laptop) although thinking of getting new laptop at work and doing away with desktop.

Don't have a personal PC at all. Just a ps3 for media center . and a few raspberry pi's for playing around on.

Laptop + dock + dual monitors for work. At home it's a desktop. If I feel like labbing from the couch I grab a laptop and RDP over.
