Trying to help define a potential role for my organization

We are growing at an alarming rate, which brings growing pains. My objective is to help my management team classify this position, so I am going to TE for some opinions and maybe some advice.

I won't make this a long job description I will bullet out some key items, 5 to be exact and I would appreciate if you would let me know what this sounds like. When the description goes out I don't want to confuse people.

Updates, Inserts, Deletes, in SQL Database to correct system data issues. This includes writing queries to uncover integrity issues.
Comfortable writing formulas in Excel to uncover data anomolies.
Recommends and documents potential changes to systems and/or processes
Capable of performing detailed UAT (Testing)
Capable of managing several projects at once. (As a team member not a manager)

I was just curious what title you would give this?

I wouldn't go so far as to say that this is a DBA position. Far from it. Writing SQL queries is not all a DBA does.

It sounds like this is a higher level systems support position. Perhaps something like "Applications Analyst" or something along those lines. Datacomboss mentioned Data Analyst. That sounds good too.

Application Analyst is more of a support position this is beyond that (IMO). I think this role is a little more proactive. I agree business analyst or data analyst would be the title. I was thinking maybe system analyst could be in there too.

They will probably go with their own title, but I thought I would at least get some opinions and make a bid for a title.

Exactly and DBA's SQL from what I have seen is usually very average, whereas a database developer, programmer, high level analyst usually is much cleaner and efficient.

DBA's are usually maintaining the environment as whole, updating triggers or removing, stored procedure, scheduling jobs, setting up ETL's, optimizing, looking for effciencies, migrating to new environments, backups. etc.

^ Spot on. Our lead DBA maintains our database and runs a lot of these in production for us/manages backups. I manage the application itself that uses the database and do a lot more development. Although my office still refers to me as their database administrator....amongst several other titles.
