What's the wierdest or dumbest thing a co-worker said to you?

I just recently had a senior IT security specialist who is training me look at a network diagram in a meeting and ask "is eigrp the name of a company?". The diagram had a few datacenters on the map from a few of the business we were looking at..made me want to slap myself.

For me it was probably "Oops!" when they deleted an important OU back when Windows 2003 came around.

Is he a network engineer experienced in deploying or supporting network devices? If not, he probably doesn't have experience with routing protocols. Maybe his skill set is in a different technology.

It didn't happen to me, but my old boss had a coworker who brought a squirrel who he thought was sick into the data center to rest...

The dumb thing is when the VP started asking a lot of questions he said "HOLD ON! I need to think..."

Your right he doesn't have a professional background (right out of Grad school), but he told me on my first day he passed the CCNA and was starting his studies for the CCNP so....

I ask once a "Lead Network Engineer" to check one of the firewall rules as a customer could not connect to their servers and the only thing which seems to be working is ICMP.

Answer:" Could you ping the server and send me a screenshot" ..

A rack and stack technician racked something upside down and someone points it out to him. he says oh, does that even matter?

Someone studying for CCNP can't figure out how to get banner motd to work and asks for help.

A new hire that gets paid twice as much as me asks someone for a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter so he can console into a term server.

Someone who's been working in IT for 4+ years doesn't know what a NFS share is or how to connect to one.

I'm sure I could add a few hundred more things if I really thought about it.

Sounds like he is a CISSP to me.

Citrix Admin on a project a few years ago would say daily if I'm not back in an hour send the cops for me in the car. He wasn't joking either, it was freaking horrid.

I actually told the director several times he just laughed it off. That project couldn't end soon enough.

The weirdest thing for me that comes to mind right now is from many jobs ago where a much older-aged co-worker who was recalling his weekend events with a female companion expressed certain dirty details which would surely result in censorship in this forum. I will refrain from reciting, but the analogy "continuously testing a physical switch port connection with a patch cable" might suffice.

His tendency to breathe heavily combined with his lacking sense of personal space and noticeable body hair exaggerated things to a negative degree. He was one of those individuals who wasn't qualified to do the work he was hired for, but knew the CIO so he got in.

A more senior co worker asked me why i had a day off. I replied i was receiving an associate degree and attending my commencment ceremony. He then replied " Why? Whats an assocaite degree going to do for you anyway" As i am the first in my family to ever earn any degree i was offended but bit my tounge as i do not wish to cause any discord at work. I was tempted to say "the same thing your bachelor degree got you. A job here"

Your co-worker sounds like a jerk, I would have had some words for him.

I had a co-worker who claimed to have aspergers, though I'm pretty sure he was just genuinely a weird dude even without it.

He'd walk around the professional office (global aerospace/defense company) without his shoes on because he said his feet got hot. He'd constantly yell out inappropriate comments, swear loudly enough for others to hear, etc.

The weirdest thing I think he said/did was during a pot-luck type of thing in the office where an executive VP's 16-17 yr old daughter had a infant with her and he screamed out, "SO ARE YOU RON'S (the VP) WIFE?" Her father was clearly in his late 50s and she gave the most disgusted face.

Worked at a MSP

Had a senior engineer decide to make changes on the NetApp for our cloud department and when I questioned him if we should wait to do this until around 7 when most of the places were emptied out he noted "Eh, the blip will be so fast they wont even notice".

It ended up taking the netapp down.

With some of your replies, I'm surprised your coworkers weren't fired. A while back when I was working in support for a federal agency I needed help with adding a computer to the domain (I didn't have rights at the time). The local system administrator told me that I should be able to add the machine to the domain with a local admin account AND that I shouldn't even need to be connected to the network. This was for Windows XP in a Server 2003 environment.

I had another co-worker who stole bunch of laptops and decided it was a good idea to sell the with computrace still active..needless to say he was caught and charged.

My boss has an obsession with his farts and using the toilet. I understand that as guys some of us fart and laugh it is in our nature but he will fart and it clears the office we all share. We have a fan that will clear the room but when we turn it on he whines about the noise it makes. If we sit and deal with the smell he will start talking about it until someone acknowledges his stench. Like he is proud of himself. Also he announces when he goes to the restroom and when he gets back he describes the stresses and strains he went through. Whether or not I am on the phone with someone.

This same person goes on and on about how he went out and got himself Enterprise Level certified MCITP because he sees market trends years in advance. He dumped the whole thing.

Anyways, getting back to the point this person was dameware'ed into a server and needed a file from another server. I said just map a drive to it, his answer - "How do you do that?" ---- Seriously?!?!?

Back in my help desk days I worked with this weirdo who made the most inappropriate comments at the worst possible time. In this particular case two older ladies got some nasty virus that popped up very nasty sexual content. They had an extremely difficult time reporting the issue and were just in fear of being fired. So genius guy and I get there and when the ladies asked "Don't we have antivirus to avoid stuff like this?" said genius answers: "Yeah, but you know, they are just like condoms. They work 99% of the time and fail when you need them most."

Faces on those ladies were priceless. It didn't take 30 seconds after we left for them to call our boss and HR and put in a formal complaint. Guy of course was fired shortly after the incident (he had a long list of previous issues).

Yes, i'm just a CCNA with a good degree... I could 'pass' all the CCNP exams if I wanted to but I like to actually know what i'm doing rather than get paper certs..
