Yep, it's all over Twitter too. Are you going to throw it on the lab mate?

    Mmmmmaybe

    ;)

Three (nested) hosts done .. vCenter VM cloning in progress .. Can't wait to test some of the new features, not 100% sure how much you are allowed to say publicly but the first couple of paragraphs of the "whats new" - ABOUT BLOODY TIME :p

Edit: Annoyingly the Install doc doesn't seem to mention Windows OS requirements for the vCenter and it just refers to the HCL (which of course doesn't include 6.x yet) - so hope the DVD includes a hint ..

Weee, Vsphere client for OsX. Finaly, always needed to power on a windows VM when I needed to access the lab host directly after a reboot and everything had not booted up as it should.

What excites me more than anything ? Finally getting hands-on with the new version before the usual 4-8 weeks exam deadline .. this time you should get enough exposure to be able to pass the exam once / when released ..

Anyone installed vCenter yet ? My server is currently in the boot / trunk of my car :p

Just having a discussion here about defaults / inheritance on the Distributed Switch.... curious if they finally introduced that so I can use Routed Networks in vCloud Director and IP Hash port groups :p

Installing now. vCenter Server first. Gives me an excuse to power down my hosts and add more RAM too :)

I am studying for the VCP510 and not 5.5. Now they have a 6.0 beta. A shame I scheduled the exam already. By seeing 6.0 over the horizon, it makes me feel even more horrible to study and learn older material. I'm way too invested to stop now, but it gives me something to study 2 years down the road when I re-certify. Then again, I will most likely bite on another type of VCP certification by then.

I would enjoy reading posts about impressions and noted differences. I would look into myself, but I am afraid to dip my brain in jar of sugar only to find out it was a jar of salt. I guess I prefer to be complacent about what I am studying now and not get too confused with upgraded options during the exam. I had to "unlearn" some things with 5.5 that I picked up by accident. icon_redface.gif
    Goals for 2016: [] VCP 5.5: ICM (recertifying) , [ ] VMware VCA-NV, [ ] 640-911 DCICN, [ ] 640-916 DCICT, [ ] CCNA: Data Center, [ ] CISSP (Associate), [ ] 300-101 ROUTE, [ ] 300-115 SWITCH, [ ] 300-135 TSHOOT, [ ] CCNP: Route & Switch, [ ] CEHv8, [ ] LX0-103, [ ] LX0-104
Future Goals: WGU MSISA or Capital Technology Univerisity MSCIS Degree Program

I wouldn't worry about VCP6 by a long shot The exam would be release only after the GA of the vSphere 6. There isn't even an ETA for the public release of vSphere 6 yet so I wouldn't worry at all. Plus with exams now expiring, sit the vcp5 and renew with 6 "while its fresh".

Sometimes VMware takes months to release an exam after the GA of vSphere, sometimes weeks. vSphere 5 for instance was released July 2011 with the exam hitting "the shelves" in August ...

#slams head on desk# .....should I just wait now for VCP6-DCV?

I guess I better hurry up and renew my VCP (it expires in a few months) while I can still site a v5 exam. I don't have time to learn a new version or to study for another advanced exam or another track.
    IT guy since 12/00

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
    Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...

If you have a small lab, you can take some RAM and CPU away post-installation. It's running fine now with 1vCPU and 4GB RAM.

It's running fine for me on 2Gb. Just not going to be too good when it grows.

Ya know, if this had existed a few months ago I might not have sold all my Apple gear.

With all of the pages of legalese, I don't think there's much we can say.

Is this beta worth joining or should I just wait until release? Am I missing out on anything important? I realise the NDA stops you talking about the beta so a simple non-descript yes/no answer will be sufficient! :)

Damn it, i'm scheduled to take the Stanly course next month on v5.0. I guess i will recert in a few years on v6
  • jibbajabbajibbajabba Member Posts: 4,317 ■■■■■■■■□□
VCPs expire anyway so yes, you will have to recert eventually :)
