Job offer for Poor me... First world problems

I have been pushing to become a manager for the last year. I finished my degree from WGU in IT Security and started looking for management jobs outside my company in April. Yesterday I received an offer to become a Manager at a casino. If I accept I would receive a 20+% base pay increase and 20+% bonus. Down side is that it turns my 15 min commute into a 45 min drive each way, the health care they offer is not well represented in my area, and it is a true 24/7 operation with no paid holidays. I really like where I work now and the people I work with. My co-workers tell me I should be excited but they say I look like someone shot my dog. Anyway going to take the weekend to think about it and make my finial decision Monday.Let me know what you think about this horrible problem I have.

I say it depends what you're wanting to do. Both long run and short run. Do you want to find a company and stick with them for the long term? I probably wont for at least a few years. Do you want to be part of a 24/7 operation with no holidays?
My gut on this one would be that the longer drive sucks, but it's not too far. 24/7 operation (and therefore 24/7 availability) sucks too, no paid holidays, and meh benefits.
on the flipside, pay increase and management experience.
I might would do it as a foot in the door for management, but I personally would want to move on soonish (1-1.5 yrs?) maybe after I implemented a few projects. Not that I would let that on to them. -

That's definitely a tough spot to be in. The pay increase is nice, but the mileage on your car (which means more money used up on gas, maintenance, etc.), the time it takes to get to and from your job, and the lackluster healthcare benefits are things that you will have to balance against each other to determine if this new job is actually a good deal financially. Not only that, but you also have to figure out if this new job will open doors for you in the future. I mention this if you plan to only be at this new job for a few years. -

Anything > 1 hour commute is foolish. Your productivity will eventually suffer, it is inevitable. If you work normal hours then you are clocking 8 hours but your driving 4, it just doesn't make sense to me.

but the 24/7 with no holidays & crappy health coverage is a deal breaker for me...Link Me

eh, I think a 45 minute drive is a little long. Personally I've put a cap on my commute at 1hr unless the job is paying hella well

Another consideration with the commute is whether driving is the only option. If mass transit or car pooling is an option, it can really turn a disadvantage into an advantage. I have a 45-minute commute, but I'm on mass transit and that's when I do my school and certification studying and pleasure reading. Having built in reading/studying time can be a great advantage.

There is no mass transit for the commute and I just bought my house three years ago and three kids either in high school or soon to start high school. So moving closer is not an option.
That is my case as well. I life in the western burbs. The company I worked for when I bought the house was 30 min away. The new job is 1 Hour by train. I just use the train ride as study time. -
