MCP or MCDST Certified?

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and also new to Microsoft Certifications (although I have passed some CompTIA certs).

I recently passed both the MCDST exams but never received a welcome kit from Microsoft. I thought it may take some time. In the meantime I passed my 70-2

Anyway, I waited a little longer for the Kit but still nothing. So I rang Microsoft. They said I should have recieved an e-mail after doing each exam but never got that e-mail. My address is correctly registered. Anyway, the Microsoft guy gave me my MCP member details to log into the MCP Member site to order the Welcome Kit. I did that after checking my results. All seemed good.

Anyway, the kit arrived a few days ago. Firstly, Australia Post didn;t look after the kit too well. It's buckled but still it's OK.

I opened the kit and found it says I am a Microsoft Certified Professional. It mentions nothing about MCDST (except on the plastic card). After digging around on this fourm, I saw some examples of other people's certficates and found that the certification should actually state MCDST. Is this correct? Should I ring Microsoft and get them to send the correct kit? What should I do?

What's worse, I decided to laminate the MCP certificate and it completley smudged my name. Other certificates I've done go straight through without problems.

It's been a comdey of dramas!

Any help appreciated.

Two different certs, you must request each one. You get an MCP the first time that you pass ANY MS exam in the standard progressions. So anything but the MOS tests and the customer sales tests. Then you get a cert for any major cert, MCDST, MCSA, MCSE, MCDBA, MCAD etc. The specialties get you one also like security and messaging but in each case you must go through the request and address verification. They used to just send to the address of record until weird things like people in New York passing the test in India and other strange places. So you can wait a bit and see if the other kit shows up or ring them back and ask.

Thanks for the info. I tried to activate a second kit but nothing shows in my MCP Member site.

I'll give them a call this morning.

From Microsoft MCP flash dated July 13, 2006
New Generation Welcome Kits Are on the Way (Worldwide)
If you have earned a New Generation credential, your new welcome kit is now on the way. Changes to our production and distribution processes caused the shipping delay; please accept our apologies for the inconvenience. As of June 16, 2006, all welcome kits for certifications through February 1, 2006, have been shipped; please expect delivery within six to nine weeks. For immediate verification of your credentials, you may print or share your transcript from the MCP site.

Seems they need to order more cheap paper to print them on. The old style watermarked paper must have been easier to procure.

I'm a little confused by what M$ mean by new generation welcome kits. Are they just a different design (as what I recieved) to the old ones or are they the ones that cover the new certifications such as Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist. It mentions both on the M$ site.

I had a look at the older kits (on these forums) and they look really nice. The MCP one I got is just a white peice of paper with some blue and Bill's signature. icon_confused.gif:

I wonder who will sign them in two years when he retires. If Steve signs them I hope it is in a air conditioned room becaues he does seem to start sweating very easily.
