    I think it depends on each individual book, as authors writing style and expertise can vary within a publisher's books. For instance, I have heard that for Security+ the Syngress is best for covering everything in great detail. While for the CCNA, many agree that Todd Lamle's Sybex book is among the best. To get more bang for your buck, the Exam Cram does a fair job, but it will not cover as much as a larger book - it may be the best for someone already familiar or experienced with the technology but needs an outline of study for the exam.
