Certifications Goals for 2015

The days are getting shorter. Nights a little colder. What better time to plan out next years goals.

2015 Goals: MCSA 2012 (417 upgrade) MCSE Server Infrastructure , MCSE Private Cloud, Server Virtualization with Hyper V and System Center, CCNP (tshoot-switch) Conditionals Possibly VCA and VCP... if I am not getting burned out towards end of next year. If I need a break these will wait....

My goals for 2015 are pretty much in lined with my WGU Degree:

Network+
Security+
Project+
Linux+
CIW Web Design Specialist
CIW v5 Database Design
CIW JavaScript Specialist

If I complete these in the first couple of months then I plan to take the CISSP.

Like N2IT said, you guys are beasts. I mainly plan to finish my degree at WGU as I have 4 classes left remaining. The only cert I have left with them to finish is Linux+. I may take a stab at the VCP since I'm about done with the Stanly class. We'll just see for now.

I have been studying the CCNA off and on since before I started going to college three years ago and I've already graduated! I think 2015 needs to be there year I get it done.

So for 2015:
CCNA
VCP5-DCV
ITIL v3
MCSA

I am 1/3 of the way through on the MCSA so I think I can get that done. And ITIL shouldn't be too hard, If it is anything like the PMBOK, which I learned in college. The VCP is probably going to give me a hard time but I am going to Stanly now and I should at least give it a shot.

OK, why not put it in writting.. Seeing I purchased the Security + study material in January of last year, and then failed to get the degree, I have to get my A+ renewed before the end of January, I'll have that done and then get this blasted Security +, beyond that I haven't figured out. My goal is to work in the PC security field so I know I want my Security +, after that, think I'll build up to CEH, so how does one transition?

Beowolfj : You know that the current Security+ Exam SY0-301 will be retired by end of this year right?

Which means either you pass the exam this year or purchase Books etc for the new SY0-401 exam.

Taking CCNA:R&S first week of December. For 2015, I'd like to get my CCNA:Security and my VCP done. Starting a new job next week so I feel as though the VCP will really help me.

Goals for 2015
- Finish WGU (Starting 4th Term next month, Only 8/9 Classes to go, I think I can do this in one term ::hoping::. Have been paying Tuition in full every term, starting to put a whole in my short term financial goals)
- MCSA - Want to move onto "Level 3" work. Tired of doing desktop deployments and Outlook Issues. Still get some good interesting stuff sometimes but trying to just doing administrative duties
- VCP (If enough time)
- ICND2 (If enough time)

Sounds like a long shot for me to complete all of that in one year but...one day at a time!

Right now I'm taking the VCP-DCV course and I have the exam scheduled for next week. Then I think I'm done for this minus some vendor training. For next year I''ll be doing the CCNP and probably finishing the MCSE 2012 I have the MCSA so it's just 2 tests.

2014 was a bit of a 'cloudy' year, I started it with the Cloud+ and ended it doing both the AWS Solutions Arch: Associate and AWS Sysop: Associate at reInvent. I also formalised my Puppet skills with the Puppet Professional 2014.

In 2015 I'll continue in the same vein as long as I'm in the same role.

AWS Certified Developer - Associate.
One of the AWS professional level certs.
I'd also like to have a look at Google Compute Engine: Qualified Developer to ensure I'm exposed to more than just AWS.

My stretch goals would be one of the RedHat certs as I'm very linux focused and the Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge (CCSK). As long as I manage to pass two certs a year I'll be happy.

I started SANS SEC560, so I need to get the GPEN done in early 2015. From there I'm going to take a Cisco certification to get my CCNA:R&S renewed. After that I should probably focus on deepening my Python knowledge.

I've completed the 560 course, working on the labs and when it opens up the exam. 2015 remains to be seen. OSCP is a remote possibility.

I am late to the party but I am looking at a lot of certifications.

I want to complete my CompTIA quest which leaves Network+ and Linux+.
I want to complete the MOS 2013 quests.
I want to get my CEHv8

I want to work on some MTA certifications such as Database.
I possibly might want to work on MCSA for Windows 7
Maybe the CCNA.

If there are other certifications that follow with the Network Security field, please let me know. That is my current degree. I just want to have a certification list that blows my future employer's mind.

I will probably get my OSCP in the summer as I don't think I'd have enough time to dedicate to it otherwise with 15credit hours a semester.

Definitely going to get my RHCE next fall. RHCSA has already paid off handsomely for me, basically allowing me to land a well paying IT job in spite of having no IT experience and only the RHCSA cert to my name. So after seeing numerous job listings when I was looking, asking for people that had RHCE certs I figure it certainly can't hurt.

More than that though the amount of practice and studying I needed to pass the RHCSA exam really has helped prepared me to take on my current role and I'm hoping that by preparing for the RHCE I'll be able to make the same kind of progress in terms of raising my overall skill level.

The objectives covering Databases would definitely apply to my job, and I also want to become more capable with stuff like Kerberos, LDAP, HTTPS, and IPv6.

I kind of have a passing interest in the CCNET and CCT certs from Cisco but given my current career path those are more in the nice to have category at this point and between training for my current role and studying for the RHCE I already have my hands full even though I'm still trying to get a feel for weather or not it'll be worth it to at least study for an MS Cert like Windows Server 2012 or Windows 7 since part of my job involves working with Windows.

Hi everybody I'm new to tech exams and just want to say I love it! I have a question about IT network security route or networking .... My passion is networking and security so it's hard to choose.... Would you guys recommend going security all the way meaning GIAC EC council infosec and offensive security? Or would it benefit me more going cisco ccie r&s and then the security path .... Or can j just go to the ccna level or maybe ccnp? So if I want to go security all the way, should ccie r&s be on my memo ? Thanx

If I land a job, I'll go for forensics certs: CHFI, GCIA, GCIH...

If I don't, maybe I'll start my consulting firm, going for OSCP for the sake of knowledge and marketability.

I'm sorry, what is your experience friend? I'm just going off your post and your cert history, I would not be looking at starting a consultancy at this point.

Finish up Bachelor's degree at WGU (InfoSec) - as part of that, wrapping up the Linux+ and completing the CCNA.

Aside from that, I am going to heavily pursue the GCIH and the CISSP-ISSAP.

I don't know if I should study for sscp since I have the experience in two of the domains to get endorsed, but I have nobody to endorse me, or if I should jump right into GIAC exams, naturally starting with GSEC.

I'll just do the SSCP since it took me a year to get the domain experience and see if I can just fill out the paperwork for ISC2 to find an endorser for me and then head to GIAC.

Haha this thread again. I look back and thought I had all year and POOF here I am looking at the end of it. Rather disappointing year certification wise....I only passed one exam I said I would from last year's resolution which was a cert that I took for half off and ended up passing (74-409 - Hyper-V and System Center virtualization cert)

I am still studying for CCENT....really got to get this underneath me and move on.

Right now studying for an Office 365 cert because it's free. Scheduled to take the exam on 12/27 to finish out the year...ready or not.

For 2015, HOPEFULLY CCENT in the beginning of the year. Perhaps Windows 8 client, Windows Server 2012 and/or CCNA. Nothing really mapped out so far.
