VMware Certified Implementation Expert (VCIX) level

VCIX focuses on multi-faceted implementation roles and includes both advanced Administration and Design skills. VCIX replaces the current VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) level and provides more thorough validation of a candidate’s skills and knowledge. Additional changes include:

  • VCIX certification is comprised of two separate exams – one focused on Administration and one focused on Design
  • The VCIX Design exam will be available at more PearsonVue testing locations
  • VCIX Design exams have been shortened from 4 to 2 hours. The decreased time does not reflect ease of the exam, but is the result of the exam focusing on new topics only and does not include those covered by prior exams
  • Elite status for candidates who complete multiple VCIX certifications

Certification requirements: VCP Certification + VCIX Design exam + VCIX Administration exam
2019: GPEN | GCFE | GXPN | GICSP | CySA+
2020: GCIP | GCIA
2021: GRID | GDSA | Pentest+
2022: GMON | GDAT
2023: GREM  | GSE | GCFA

WGU BS IT-NA | SANS Grad Cert: PT&EH | SANS Grad Cert: ICS Security | SANS Grad Cert: Cyber Defense Ops SANS Grad Cert: Incident Response

Damn it. Now I want elite status for multiple VCAPs. Maybe I'll collect the last 2 VCAPs before they go away.

Do current vcap's auto obtain this? Surely if you have design and admin you get this

VCAPs stop at the vSphere 5.x product line and VCIXs start with the vSphere 6.x product line.

Damn it VMware, keep it simple. Freaking HR having no clue whatsoever about VCAP's anyway, will be even more befuddled than ever before. Now there are two types of Experts - Implementation (with a design component!) and Design. At face value, it kind of takes the sheen away a little bit from the VCDX. The 'X' in there made it sexy. Wouldnt stop me from getting there.

Whatever though, like Dave, I want that 'elite' status too! For water cooler bragging rights, that is icon_razz.gif

It's as if though the industry learned nothing from Microsoft's shift from the old MCSE to MCITP. By the time HR reps and IT directors became aware of what the MCITP series was, it was back to the MCSE acronym again. Changing the internal workings and requirements for a cert is one thing, but changing the name is always bad mojo, especially when the old name, VCAP, was just beginning to get a foothold in the industry as "one better than VCP" for a lot of companies.

Here's to putting both VCIX and "VCAP6" on our resumes so we show up properly in all those recruiter-databases, just like we did with "MCSE 2008". icon_lol.gif

    The exams won't be easier.

scuttlebutt is 1 VCAP exam + 1 VCIX exam (assuming same silo, one design, one admin) = 1VCAP cert & 1VCIX cert

    same price

A 2 hour exam is easier than a 4 hour exam even if the exam material are the same difficulty level because a 2 hour exam isn't as mentally and physically tough as a 4 hour exam.

More importantly, what about elite status for those of us with multiple VCAPs? :)

If you are not any more likely to pass one than the other, it's not easier ;)

Working on what "Elite" means if that has been decided.

No. What you're suppose to do is walk up to a girl and ask her, "Wanna see my VCAPs?" icon_wink.gif

This is why I stopped trying to do VMware certs (and the 2 yr change) and I'm transitioning to OpenStack.

I'm trying to wrap my head around OpenStack too. What kind of work have you had the chance to do with it?

The only time that would ever happen on this earth is if she was only a VCP.
