NetworkNewb: There are a lot of underpaid joats in the twin cities. I'm also one of them for a smb making a bit less than you. It's my first it job and a great learning experience. The guy I'm replacing, who's made a 20 year career of being a joat has told me not to get stuck in that position. Even with his experience he's barely making ends meet.

45K is comfortable for some areas of the cities like northern, but if you live around the hottest it spot, around edina, it barely pays the bills.

Infosec jobs are starting to flourish around here. There's more hits for cissp then for mcsa and ccna. Unfortunately most are looking for 5+ years experience.

Also read a lot of local companies are bringing their IT back inhouse because it's become cheaper than outsourcing. Not sure if that's good or bad for those in our position.
