I think I read somewhere that ram or drive usage was limited? This is a free download right?

There was a 32GB RAM limit on the free edition of 5.1, this was lifted for 5.5. There's now a 4TB limit on RAM on the full version, probably more than what most lab environments would have

64TB disks on VMFS, infinite on NFS. Is this what you were after?
