IT Job situation in NYC?

How is the job market in NYC for System Admin / Desktop Support or Network Engineers?

I am planning to move there early in the next year. Currently I am working for an Oil Company in Dubai as a System Support Engineer. Mainly working with Symantec Netbackup and also for user support but my goal is to work as a System Admin or a network engineer.

Qualification: M.Sc in Telecom (UK)

Certs: CCNA, MCSA-2012, VCP-DCV 5.5 and currently studying for RHCSA .

Experience: 2+ Years (Desktop Support, back up, Windows Server 2003/2008 )

My present job in Dubai is quite good but as my wife is living and studying in US (She is a US citizen), therefore I have no option but to move there. Anyone here to provide me some insights or tips?

The job market in NY, NJ, CT and in the tristate area in general is pretty good. Depending on the field, there are a lot of local companies, national companies and international companies with presence in the area. Then again don't get all your information for a forum, you have to look at the job sites, linkedin, glassdoor, careerbuilder etc etc. filter for NY area and you will get some hits. Make some contacts with recruiters based in the area so they can at least line up some interviews when you get to your area. It will cut tremendously on your search if you make your contacts now rather when you get there.

its decent here....depends on the industry the company is in, as far as pay goes tho...

you're a lil light on experience, but if you can impress the right pplz, you could find something that pays well, depending on the role you're looking for....

You will have no problem getting a job in NYC right now with your qualifications, check sites such as indeed.com, I feel the IT industry here has been picking up from a slump.

Yes I am thinking to start applying for jobs after I go there. Have decent experience on Windows servers and backup systems and now trying to add some Linux with those. To be honest, not worrying about pay at the beggining, just want to start somewhere as I understand I need to gain experience for US market first. Any idea on certification or skill sets that may help in my future job hunting??

You already have the certifications and experience. The issue is are you allowed to work in the US.
