RAM to upgrade 1841 to run CCP

[Deleted User][Deleted User] Senior MemberPosts: 0 ■■□□□□□□□□
I am looking to upgrade my 1841s to have 256MB of RAM. However, mine currently have 128MB and I believe 32MB of f lash. What is the exact memory module I would need to upgrade my 1841s? I am hoping to buy it on Amazon so any links to amazon for the RAM would be nice/helpful. Thanks guys!

You might as well, go to the max on it, add 256mb, the max on the 1841 is 384, the default is 128 and it is fixed to the mother board.

here is the excerpt from Cisco's page on the 1800 series routers:
    Memory
    Q. What kind of DRAM memory does the Cisco 1841 router use?
    A. The Cisco 1841 router uses SDRAM. The default DRAM for the Cisco 1841 router is 128 MB, which is fixed onboard. The Cisco 1841 has a DIMM slot onboard that can be populated with additional DRAM memory.

I just picked my extra memory up on ebay, I think I paid about $8.00 a 256mb DIMM and it came with free shipping.

Here is the full page link to Cisco on this router:

I bought all my memory on eBay. There is a dealer in South Carolina who I've used without a problem and they're about half the price of Amazon.

I'm confused as to why you'd need more ram on the router to run CCP (Cisco Configuration Professional). CCP is not run from a router.

I'm not sure just Cisco's requirement. I also need to upgrade my flash to 64MB currently have 32MB. That shouldn't be more then $25 for both routers I'm guessing.

I just bought 5 64mb CF flash cards, Cisco branded off ebay for $2.95 each, and they shipped them to me for free, I had them in 4 days, and in fact, they messed up sent me 4 64mb cards and 1 128mb card, tested all of the, no problems at all and at that price, I would not have worried about it, I just checked and the guys has 7 cards left in his auction. I did purchase them for my 1841 routers, so I could upgrade my IOS

This will work for 1841's? The posting shows only 2800 series. I also looked at some 3rd party memory I found for 8 dollars a stick. I don't really want to go 3rd party but money is a concern and I don't want to spend more money in case it really messes up my router. Is 3rd party really not recommended for Cisco gear?

They work in my 1841's, there are 5 of them set up and running in my lab as I type this, as for the memory, who the hell do you think makes the memory for Cisco, there is no such thing as "3rd party" There are only a few companies in the world that actually make memory, then everybody puts their name on it. The CF cards I purchased, have the Cisco labels on them and have Cisco part numbers, but guess what, just about anybodies CF card will work in these routers also, I used to run 512mb Sandisk cards in mine with never a problem. There are only a few manufactures of those in the world as well. Guess what, take the sticky label off of them and they all look the same.

Yes, you can run it from the PC, go to Cisco Support to get the full 2.7 install.
