CompTIA renewal

Hello, I just got my Sec+ certification recently and I checked the comptia site online to see the online pdf certificate and I noticed that my Network+ expiration date changed to the same expiration date as my Sec+. Does taking any of the CompTIA exams renew the other CompTIA exams that you currently have? Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

Yes, with most vendors, when you pass a cert that's the same level or higher than the one you had previously, the previous one gets renewed.

I.e. if you have a CCNA: R&S, it'll get renewed for another 3 years if you get a CCNP or CCNA: Security.

What line of work are you in Justin? Personally, I would not renew any CompTIA certs. Just move on to the big boys.

Yes, and when you take your CCNA, I believe it will renew your S+ and N+ again.

I had to renew because it is a DOD requirement.

The CompTIA website outlines the Continuing Education requirements. For instance, Network+ renews A+, Security+ renews Network+/A+, Server+ renews the Network+/A+. There are quite a few non-CompTIA exams that will renew the various CompTIA certifications.

How to Renew Your CompTIA Certification

You can see what renews what and what gives partial credit towards renewal in the Renew with IT Certifications section

Here's one even better, with CompTIA you only have to renew your highest cert, it will automatically renew the ones below it. If you check the list for Security+, C|EH and CASP will both renew Sec+. If you use a Comptia cert (CASP) to renew the lower ones, it will change to the new date, 3 years from when you take the test. So if you take CASP tomorrow, your new renewal date will be 3 years from tomorrow, but you wont have to pay renewal fees.

    OR

If you use an outside cert like CEH, it will add a full 3 years AFTER the current 3 years. So if you took CEH tomorrow, uploaded it to your CompTIA account, your Net+ and Sec+ would be good until 2021 as long as you pay the 3 year fees.

CCENT/CCNA: R&S will renew Network+, it would take a CCNA: Security to renew the Security+.

Does taking other vendors exams to renew CompTIA certs require paying the CE fees? I noticed that my Security+ is expiring next week and there isn't much I can do apart from taking Storage+. Can I upload my MCSA 2008 to CompTIA and extend Security+ without paying?

I also noticed that my Network+ and A+ certs were extended until 2018 even though the last CompTIA exam I took was in 2012. Magic... I didn't have to pay anything.

You do have to pay the CE fees if it's not a CompTIA cert. Also for Sec+ this is the list for certs that will certify it. I know the MCSA is a combination of tests, so check the Microsoft section and see if one of your certs is listed. http://certification.comptia.org/docs/default-source/certification-documents/security-trainv1.pdf?sfvrsn=2

Even tho the CCNA won't renew a Sec+, I wonder if it'd at least count for partial CEUs, allowing you to combine multiple certs that don't fully renew it.
    Goals for 2018:
Certs: RHCSA, LFCS: Ubuntu, CNCF CKA, CNCF CKAD | AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Solutions Architect Pro, AWS Certified Security Specialist, GCP Professional Cloud Architect

If you have A+, N+ and S+ the CCNA would give you 30 CEU's toward renewing your N+ and A+. I dont know for sure, but I would think that you would then only need 20 more CEU's, giving a total of 50 CEU's, to renew the S+. I am just guessing on this, so I might be wrong.

As per the link I gave above, no partial CEUs for a CCNA R&S

I believe that since Sec+ is higher than N+, you'd need to get all 50 CEUs valid for Sec+ to renew those certs
