I used the following book and online 'study package' with practice questions which included very exam like simulation questions to pass Security+ in just under 4 weeks. Cannot recommend Gibson's materials enough.

    Book:
CompTIA Security+: Get Certified Get Ahead: SY0-401 Study Guide: Darril Gibson: 9781939136022: Amazon.com: Books

Online Study Package: (I'd recommend the "full access package" it's by far the best 46 dollars I spent in preparation for Security+

I had that book. It is not bad, but it seems D. Gibson's book is a bit better. The Sybex book is going into details when it is not necessary (different IT Sec organizations and standards). Sometimes the language used in the book was hard to understand for me.

I would recommend not to rely only on the book but check some video training as well. Professor Messer has free courses available on youtube. CBT Nuggets for Sec+ were also great, but depends if you (or your boss) want to spend some extra $$$.

I'll second that. I didn't include CBT Nuggets in my first post, my bad. Before reading the book or doing the practice exams I wantched the CBT Nugget Security+ video course with Keith Barker. Great stuff, very much worth the $100 bucks (unless you can put yourself through it in the 1 week free trail period. It's around 18 hours-ish) icon_neutral.gif

    Good Luck!

I watched some of Messer's videos and have read through Gibsons Sy0-401 guide along with the practice questions kindle book he has. I plan to take the exam tomorrow and will report back on how I do.

This is the one I recommend every time. When I took the test, it had everything you needed to pass. Easy to read, too.

I had some experience, so some of it was just a basic review. It filled in the gaps on everything else, though. But, every question I had on the exam had relevant material in the book.

I figured I'd use my first post to TechExams to echo *strong* support for Darril Gibson's book and his premium material. My Sec+ test is coming up on Thursday.

I can't agree with you enough. Your testing tomorrow? The book is great...the practice questions are extremely relevant...to the exam questions. You should have no problems.
