Hi all

I just wondered if anyone had any background on the MOS track, this is because my boss has just approached me and said he would like me to complete the following by the end of the year:

MOS Expert - Word
MOS Expert - Excel
MOS specialist in all other categories!!

If I can get through this lot I will head up the regional IS Support and Maintenance division and get a hefty pay raise:)

he says 2-3 weeks study for each cert should do the trick, but as I have never looked into this track I am not sure if this is realistic, and also do these certs carry any real weight in the IT market??

Thanks in advance for any feedback on this

Yeah I did the MOS track in 2007 on 2007. I knew Excel really well so I started there and then went to Word, PowerPoint (sadly this was the hardest) then Outlook. Never did Access even though I know that application extremely well.

I would recommend doing the one you are the strongest at first to gain momentum.

I think 3 - 4 weeks for applications you rarely use and 1 week for ones you are really good at.

Yeah you got these, I actually got a pay raises when I learned these as well. I was able to help with Word formatting issues, mail merges etc. No one on the help desk or desk side at the time had those skills. It made me very valuable I think this is a great move.

I would go with Word first if all things are equal. Most "power users" will know more about Excel than you, however Word users struggle to do simple things like adjust margins etc. I personally think the two best ones to have from a support angle only is Outlook and Word. With that said do your own path, those are just some suggestions.

Thanks for all your input, i have been asked to do the following

    Word Expert
    Excel Expert
    Outlook
    Sharepoint
    Access

I think that will add up to a "Master" with 1 additional specialist, if i have read the documentation correctly, i have spent most of today going over the MSoft training site and tomorrow begins the real work
