Would it be a waste to take the 800 series exams this year

I'm(and I'm sure a lot of others) studying for the 800 series exams but supposedly comptia will be introducing a new series of exams this year. Is it worth it to take the 800 series exams right before the new ones roll out?

I am sure the exams will be valid for a certain amount of time after the new ones arrive. The certification would still be valid for the 3 years regardless.

Short answer, if you already have the materials for 801/802, take those exams.

Long answer: As Jose243 pointed out, they will be good for three years. Employers ask for an up-to-date A+ certification, not usually a particular test series. That means that as long as you keep up with the CE's, you're current and don't need to worry.

Also, there is usually a six month or so overlap between the introduction of the new exams and the expiration of the old ones. A quick look at Amazon shows that the new study material will be out between November of this year through February of next year. So, you will likely have to put off your exam until January at the earliest if you are gunning for the 901/902 exams. If one were to guess, I would say that the new exams will come out in the last quarter of this year. That gives you until the end of March through the end of May for the old exams. This scenario means that you have almost one year before the 801/802 tests will expire.

    Cheers

Go for the current 800 series. Employers won't know whether you took the 800 or 900 series. They'll just see A+ certification. Once you get certified and get your certificate in the mail it will says A+ Certified ce (ce standing for continuing education). No longer a lifetime cert. Valid for 3 yrs now from date you passed 802 test.

I was also contemplating whether to take current network+ (N10-005) or wait for new (n10-006). This was before the n10-006 was released. Had been studying for the n10-005 so this is what I am shooting for before August 31st when it will be retired. Good luck.

Hey Techie19, long time no see or chat. Anyway, how's the job coming? Are you almost done studying for the Network+ (N10-005) exam? I take my Network+ (N10-005) exam on the 24th of July. You?
