GYM during lunch break anyone?

UnixGuyUnixGuy Mod Posts: 4,564 Mod
Been out of the gym for two months now and feel bad about it. I'm very active after work (think intense cardio) so I still get my exercise in but I know that I need weightlifting...

Excuses aside, I've been thinking of going to the gym during my lunch break. Who here in TE go the gym during lunch break?

It'll take me 15 minutes to get the gym, and my workout is usually 20-40 minutes but I can restructure it and make it strictly 20 minutes (chest-only day, back day, legs day, biceps/triceps days,..) so 20 minutes daily workout.

This will roughly take 1-1.5 hrs. I'm thinking of talking to my boss about it and say that I'll stay in the office an extra half an hour to make up for it. It's a relaxed environment here so he won't mind.

What's your experience? Any tips/recommendations?

Wouldn't work for me. I have extremely dry skin and couldn't stand showering in the morning and then again a few hours later at lunch time. On the flipside, there's no way I would return to work after exercising and being all stinky and sweaty without having taken a shower. Catch 22, I guess. icon_confused.gif

I used to...about the same (1.5 hours). Now I work from home and define my own schedule, so I should have more reason than ever to hit the gym...but sadly, it has fallen from my routine.

Should probably get back on that.

Will you be going to the gym every day? I go to the gym after work since my workouts are an 1 hour long (sometimes more). Are you looking to gain muscle? If so, I don't think 20 minutes is enough time to get everything in.

I don't hit the gym but occasionally do a quick HIIT routine in my closed office. I don't work up much of a sweat, mainly just out of breath. I'm mainly trying to lose weight and HIIT is by far the best way I've found to do so. I lost more than twice the weight in a month of 10 minutes of HIIT compared to 1 hour of cardio and all you need is some floor space.

I want to put on muscle and bring my fat percentage down, but I also do intense cardio ~3 hrs per day after work doing other sports so my weightlifting routine was basically 45 minutes/day 3 days per week (more than that and I feel drained, but there is room for improvement).

I'm in good shape (lean) but my goals is I want to get better. Not get into too much details, I just want to know when do you guys squeeze in time for GYM?

Another option for me would be: Have my GYM bag (I don't own one yet) ready with me at work, and go to the gym straight after work then go out ( I have something everyday after work so my time is limited).

    Ideas?

I used to do this at my previous job during my 1 hour lunch break. We had an onsite gym facility, so I just brought my dufflebag with my gym attire and water bottle to work. I used to do just weightlifting as well - reason being because I didn't want to sweat and go back to work all sweaty. It's possible.

I usually do resistance training and cardio before I go to work every morning. The only drawback that I found was that I had to get used to sleeping earlier then usual. But all in all I'd say the extra effort is well worth it :)

I either take a walk at lunch or go to the gym.

I like to go a golf range during my lunch. One a couple blocks away from my work. Don't go when its too hot out though, don't like to be sweaty coming back to work.

I save the workouts for after work.

I workout as soon as I get home from work. This allows me to enjoy my workout, decompress after stressful days, and not have to rush, as opposed to trying to hit the gym during the lunch hour.

This. I tried it during lunch and it was a no go. Right after work though is a good time.

I try to take off for an hour or so during the day for the gym a few times a week. I try not to have too strict a schedule on it because things are fluid as to when I get that free time. We did have a gym in the office, but neighbors complained about the banging.

I work on an Army base, we have plenty of gyms to choose from. I go around 12:30 after the soldiers have left and whatever time I go over my 1 hour, I make it up at the end of the day.

I'm thinking about joining a gym by my work soon. I plan on using this approach.

Assuming I'm not on call I can easily decompress using this method. Having my clothes either in my car or my work bag works out either way, but remembering to take pre-workout before on a rushed day is the hard part :D.

Mornings can work if I wanted them to. Just not a fan of waking up at 430 am (Even though I used to go at midnight before getting into work at 345 am).

To OP: You may just bring your bag and go after work. It only takes one time when something goes bad to put you in a bad situation.

    I break mine up.
Morning: weight lifting, yoga, resistance training, and exercises.
Evening/after work: heavy bag 5 minutes, then 30 minutes straight.

I get about 1.5 to 2 hours to work out at lunch. I play soccer with a local gang we organized from different agencies on base.

Its funny the looks I get when I enter a meeting all sweating and red. I had a client once ask me if I was vapor locked in a meeting. I laughed and said, how could you tell?

I changed my routine up to do the gym late in the evening. It seems to work the best for me. 7:30 - 8:30 gym then run with the dog from 8:45 - 9:30, shower, bed.

Wake up with the wife @ 6:15. Grab my gym bag and work clothes. Head to the office and arrive around 6:40. Utilize the onsite gym at work for cardio/weights until about 8:15-8:30. Shower and then head into the office to start by 9.

I hate mornings, but since my wife is up at 6:15 anyway, I just get up at the same time since I get woken up anyway.

I use to go for runs or cycle during lunch when at my old job. Was within walking distance of a green way though. Not so much at my current office.
