Opinion on listing credit hours on resume? I'll be throwing my resume around mid-late next year and should be really close to completing my degree. Around 120/135 credits. I think it looks fine and ensures the employer that I'll soon have my degree.. or would just an estimated graduation date be more appropriate? Thanks.

Proverbs 6:6-11Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, Which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler, Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest. How long will you slumber, O sluggard?
When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep, So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler And your need like an armed man.

Just updating my resume and wondering whether I should include a 5 months (apr-aug '15) job as 1st line desktop support technician at a well-known IT company.

-If I don't include it, it will look like I was unemployed from January - August 2015. I was only unemployed Jan - Mar 15.

-If I do include it, will I look like a "job hopper"? The reason I'll be leaving in August is because I got a much better job. Anyone in my position would have seized this opportunity, IMO.

My resume currently lists a job I was at for only 3 months. Additionally, I DO have a few months of gaps in my unemployment.
List that job. There's no reason not to.
    Goals for 2018:
Certs: RHCSA, LFCS: Ubuntu, CNCF CKA, CNCF CKAD | AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Solutions Architect Pro, AWS Certified Security Specialist, GCP Professional Cloud Architect
Learn: Terraform, Kubernetes, Prometheus & Golang | Improve: Docker, Python Programming
    To-do | In Progress | Completed

My suggestion is to start working as an independent consultant. This will cover the gaps

Landed my first IT position back in April. Its a help desk job. This is the last semester of school that I will be actively working on Cisco networking hardware and I am sitting for my CCNA at some point in the next few months. Im in the process of building my resume as I want to finally find some sort of junior/starting networking position. Should my resume just list bullets of job duties along with the protocols and concepts ive learned in school? Or should I go more in depth and provide specific examples of when and how I implemented the things I've learned??

Or ignore all the advise above and have CISSP anywhere on the first page of your resume.

Hey guys, I have a major problem. Here's my situation, I'm relocating to another state and I have to make a resume. My major problem is I don't have anything good to put on my resume. I really want an IT job, any IT job to start would really make a difference in my life. Here is all that I have for a resume.

Worked as a security guard for 3 years in nyc. Now currently working as a cab driver for 4 years. I have GED and currently perusing A+ with home study materials.

I know I don't have much, but I will continue to try to obtain other certifications after A+.

I really have no idea how to make a proper resume with this little background.

    Can someone please advise me?

Im looking to rewrite my resume as well.... I took out the skills section and just modeled my resume after job searches and descriptions. What I do is look at jobs and add keywords that will get my resume searched when employers search for key words like

    - Active directory
    - Office 365
    - Exchange 2010
    - BMC Remedy
    - service now
    - Outlook 2010
    - MS office suite

And the list goes on. As long as you have buzzwords in your resume you rarely have to re-edit it all the time...

can some one please review my resume and see if it looks ok form job role like "Network Administrator" or "Systems administrator"

I would really appreciate as im applying non stop and getting absolutely no calls. I am doubting my resume is not even passing the ATS softwares.

P.s Some of the formatting is messed up due to copy/paste so that is not the issue.

To be noted when submitting a resume through a government agency, they use the Key Word System. Make sure you resume has the keywords in the job description otherwise you will never get looked at as a candidate.

What would be the best way to email a resume? I was told to use PDF but then others tell me that Microsoft Word would be better otherwise the filtering programs would not pick up key words. Then there is copy and paste.. One benefit sending in PDF format is that its seen exactly the way it was intended. Thanks for any suggestions!

I am trying to get an entry level position in software development, I have A+ and Net+ is it a good idea to list those two certs on the resume or not put them on at all?
  • ratbuddyratbuddy Member Posts: 665
While they probably won't hurt you, they also won't help. Portfolio is far more important than certs when trying to break into dev. Do some side projects in the stacks you'd like to target and include a link to your github.

Okay um, it looked a lot better in Word. It was suggested that I put experience in last since the majority of my current work experience has little to do with IT. Instead I attempted to emphasize transferrable skills as well as what I picked up in college.

I'm wondering if it's better to simply put in the CompTIA logos in the resume under the Industry Certs. I figure the words would be better for ATS, but the logos would be more eye catching for human eyes.

Also put in Exp Grad Date on March 2018 despite having finished my final semester this month because I won't actually have the degree in hand until March.

As to me, CV doesn't mean that much, all you need to do is just to list every experience you have (even if it's quite irrelevant, because everything does matter) as well as to be able to explain it well

Both happen.  Keywords get you through the HR filter, who send the 20-30 "best" applicants forward.  The hiring manager then skims those 20-30 resumes to decide which 5-10 they will interview.  Those 5-10 get a deep read by the hiring board which consists of managers and subject matter experts.

That's why they say to submit a long resume for federal positions.  All those words may get your resume into the hands of the hiring manager.  While the hiring manager doesn't want to read 30x 6 page resume, the hiring board does want this level of detail to help determine their "top 3" picks.
