RHCSA Booked

I've been studying off and on for this exam for quite some time, but finally scheduled it for August 10. I've gone through all the exam objectives and am able to do just about everything without having to look at my notes. I'm going back over a couple items: like LDAP and SELinux, then I should be good to go.

SELinux, a tough nut to crack. These are the best tutorials that I've found online for it:

May sound strange but try to enjoy it too. Don't try and put yourself under any additional pressure of trying to complete it under x/hours.

Take your time, double check everything you do.

Best of luck, it's on the todo list prior to year end so will be interested in how you find it.

Good tip. I will try my best to do that.

Here's a tip for you, for both RHCSA and RHCE.

    chkconfig <service> on !

heck, I would just run the following
for service in httpd iptables rpcbind rsyslog postfix ntpd sshd xinted nfs named samba
    do
         chkconfig $service on
    done

no, but seriously, make sure all services you configure are configured to run with chkconfig :D

RHEL 6 Exam is not available to take anymore. Also to the OP good luck and from what I hear reboot often to test each major change you make.

I appreciate the tips here, but I will be using the current comands. In RHEL7 chkconfig still works but is deprecated. Systemd has made things so much better; I go and do systemctl enable httpd (equivalent of chkconfig), systemctl start httpd, systemctl status httpd -l (shows all dependencies, if its active or disabled, started, and any errors associated with the daemon) ,then make some config changes and use systemctl reload httpd, it only reloads config files while keeping the service running. This actually eliminates the need for multiple reboots which people do often do for these exams but has really become almost unnecessary. I still think 1 reboot is OK for good measure, but more than that and you're wasting time.

Thanks! If you purchased the RHCSA exam on RHEL6 before February 28, 2015, you have up to 1 year from the purchase date to take the RHEL6 version. There are some differences in test objectives between version 6 and version 7, so make sure you get the RHEL6 version objectives or you might fail the exam.

with most guys I know the very first task is the biggest curve ball thrown at them, after that life is easy if you reboot often

Good luck Verities, pay attention to configuration files and make sure you know the syntax, it may be the life saver come exam time.

3 days until blastoff. Continuing to go over exam objectives every day and feeling a lot better about SELinux and LDAP.I'll update this thread after the exam.

Took the exam this morning and feel pretty good about it. Waiting on the results.....

Passed with a 266/300! Not the best score, but a pass is a pass.

Congrats! Great work! Is it that instant with the results now?
Your impressions with the exam? Would you say there were questions a bit too vague? Did you take classroom or kiosk exam?
266/300 is a great score. Of course you went for full 300/300 so now you may feel dissappointed- in which case would you retake the exam? icon_wink.gif

Thanks Varelg. The results are based on how fast the company that provides the exam scores it. On RedHat's website it says between 1-3 business days. In this case it took about 3 hours for me to receive my score. I took the kiosk exam; I don't have the money to spare for a certified class lol. The instructions for the exam were straightforward and the questions were clear. I will not be retaking the exam, I'll probably go for RHCE next time, but have 3 years to do that for recertification purposes.

How many hours study did you put in for this exam?

    Congratulations.

How many hours study did you put in for this exam?

I took a leisurely pace which ended up being about 2 months from start to finish Monday through Friday, while at work since I have a lot of downtime there.

Congratulations on the pass! How would you rate the difficulty of the exam on a scale from 1 to 10 for a person with only Linux+ knowledge and no real-world experience but home labs?

Congrats. I will be taking the classroom exam myself since been reading way too many horror stories with kiosk exams.

If 10 is the hardest, I would say maybe a 6. The test isn't bad as long as you practice going through all the objectives and since you have access to the man pages I would rate the exam easier than Linux +.

That's a really fair assessment actually. I feel like the RHCSA and the LPIC-1 really pair well together and it's not a big leap at all to get the RHCSA after LPIC-1. The exam is almost a bit too easy depending on what and how you've been studying linux.
