Mine sure as hell does. I study in my office, in front of my nice ultra-wide monitor, several computers, bookshelves, magazines, and usually with my phone and iPad in reach. Thank goodness I moved my PS4 out of there. It also doesn't help that I have ADD.

Absolutely... I use to study in my travel trailer besides my house to minimize distractions. I was just too lazy to go to a coffee shop, you really need to pull yourself out of the environment of distractions. Like my wife, my son, the phone ringing, the TV in the distance. Now that my trailer is up at the campground, I lock my office door shut the phones off in there and put on music with my headphones. It's all about minimizing distractions.

Stay focused on task? Hahahaha. Between distractions and ADD, I don't quite know what staying focused on task is like. In all seriousness though, I find leaving the phone and iPad out of the room helps. Turning my monitor and/or computers off helps. That really just leaves me with the book in front of me. I do find trying to stick to the Pomodoro technique works wonders. Study intensely for 25 minutes. Take a 5 minute break. After four 25 minute sessions, take a longer break 30 minutes. I honestly never get past four sessions as two hours is usually the max time that I have to dedicate to study at any given time.

Yes! My Bose QC15's are amazing. They are a must have since I have 3 little ones at home and my office is on the first floor.

I'm with you on the Pomodoro technique! Just learned about this recently. It's just seems alot easier knowing you just have to focus for 25 minutes at a time and then you know you are getting a small break after.

I have trouble at work and home. work because I have people always I.M for help or walking into the office. At work it's about family, and noise. I think that's why it takes me longer to learn stuff.

I do that sort of technique, I study or watch a vid for no more than 30-45mins then take a break.

I cant study at work, if people see me there even after 5pm I still get asked questions, the joys of being the only IT in the office I'm at. At home, I have a little office, headphones are a must though I try to no bring the tablet or mobile with me for less distractions.
How does one study though with music playing, I think I would find it to be a distraction.
  • ed_003ed_003 Member Posts: 216
I dont find it to be distracting if the music is playing on the laptop speakers or on phone.. I cant do the headphones when studying because it to personal and direct for me so it distracts me icon_study.gif

You know what i have tried the headphone stuff and I think you might have a point of being distracted. I will have to try a different way of playing the music. That might be the issue trying to really think but also listen to the music.

If you can Wake up early , when everybody else is dreaming (say like 5 am to 7 am) , im pretty sure you can get at least 4 x 25 min of studying at home (pomodoro)

    No way at work xD

Unless your an System Administrator , Perhaps they have the time for that :D , waiting for a reply from an admin icon_study.gif

I have trouble studying at home.
i may study after work or at restaurant.
star bucks, pandera bread and any restaurant wher you have no waiter and you can get own drinks.
library is too loud, so quit going there.

Not at all, but then again, the basement is my domain and nobody ever really comes down there except when there's weather to hide from. On one side I've got my desk, workbenches and racks when I'm in hands on mode, and on the other side a couple of couches and really nothing else. Great spot to read, can't hear anything except for the faint hum of the dehumidifier.

Studying at work or home is very hard because of life and people needing help at work. At the moment i'm on vacation now recovering from surgery. this whole week i plan on studying as much as possible. The only thing is taking breaks and putting some study music from youtube or something in the back ground.

I must say getting in to work 2 hours early gives you time to really get through some things. I got through all my Skillport modules that way as well as going through the 90 Days to MCSA one note.

What kinds of music do people listen too, does anyone find that one genre helps them to concentrate ?

What is Skillport? I like R&B not very loud

Skillport is similar to CBT nubbets, offering 1 hour + training videos. They also have books. I should point out I only have access because of work, I can only guess but its probably an expensive product.

Never heard of this technique. I usually take a 5min break after 55min of studying. Maybe I've been doing it wrong. Definitely going to try this.

For me not so much - I feel books and labs are the way to go.

Personally I feel like its a lot more exam focused than CBT nuggets.
The instructor for the MCSA modules is Jacob Moran (there was one video in the 90Days to MCSA one note linking to his personal channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLgTkrburbo )
