2514 DRAM

OMG!!!

I just received my 2514, I have two 2503 on its way. I was so excited to see the UPS guy, it was like the first time I walked into a bachelor's party. haha...

Anyway, I couldnt wait but to start up this thing right away, it did have some marks and scratches...oh well...the thing is, it's here.

I see this:
cisco 2500 (68030) processor (revision L) with 14336K/2048K bytes of memory.
Processor board ID 07042371, with hardware revision 00000000

in show version...is that normal? Why does it show the 16MB of DRAM that way?

Does that mean by 2514 can go up to 18MB?, how in there world did someone find a 14MB module?

some 2500 series ios makes it show as 14k/2, which means 14k left 2k used, other 2500 ios will display 16k/2k which of course means 16k total, 2k used. On one of my 2500 series routers it shows as 16/2 while on another with a newer ios shows as 14k/2k. No such thing as a 14meg module.

ummm, yeah, ok. Certain 2500s have 2MB on-board memory. If they don't, the module is logically divided, thus the 14/2.

From Cisco:

DRAM SIMM can be up to 16 MB, so total DRAM can be 18 MB on routers having an additional 2 MB on-board.

If the SIMM is not used, shared I/O memory is 1 MB and Main Processor Memory is 1 MB of the 2 MB on-board DRAM.

If SIMM is used, shared I/O memory is 2 MB on-board DRAM, and Main Processor Memory is the SIMM (up to 16 MB).

For the 25xx platforms that do not have on-board DRAM and only use SIMMs, the memory is logically divided in shared I/OmMemory and main processor memory.

I'm wrong about the ios being the blame for the way the memory shows. My guess is it depends on the router revision maybe? Hopefully someone has the answer.

Cisco says revision A-G have the onboard 2MB.
