Passed 70-411!!!

vanillagorilla3vanillagorilla3 Member Posts: 79 ■■■□□□□□□□
Just passed the 70-411 with a 700. I'll take it though. That was the hardest MS test I've taken so far.

Now, on to 74-409 or 70-412...any suggestions? I'm thinking the 409 since I've been working a lot with Hyper-V the last 6 months.

Once I get the MCSA, I'm off to RedHat.

Congratulations! The 411 is a beast of a test, for sure.

In regards to what to do next, the 409, I've heard, is the easier of the two tests. I imagine it would be even easier if you had been working in Hyper-V a lot.

The 412 covers a lot of content that seems to be somewhat randomly assembled so I imagine it is just as hard as it is made out to be. It does, however, cover some important topics that would likely come up in a job if you were expected to have an MCSA.

    Congrats!

Now I have a question... Does the 74-409 test substitute the 70-412 requirement for MCSA? Or you plan on taking both, you're just going to do the 74-409 one first?

Good point, poolmanjim. I'll most likely still go through the topics of the 412 a bit.

Sconnie, the 409 can be a substitute for the 412, so you'll still get the MCSA.

...Where is this written?? :O Because I work in Hyper-V on a day to day basis and that would be awesome to substitute that for the 412.

edit: Nevermind, I just found it. Makes me a happy man

Congrats, 411 is one tough test indeed!

412 has some interesting topics, the training guide covers them early on but it seems like even a more difficult test than 411. If you have interest in AD security definitely study 412 at least and decide if you want to test.

409 is very interesting but it doesn't have much for study material, it's definitely easier than 410 and 411. I started with zero hyper-v experience, only vsphere and xenserver, after studying 410-412 I knew the majority of what the 409 tested me on. There was some common sense virtualization questions as well. It's tough to lab, especially system center, but hyper-v is relatively easy compared to other type 1 hypervisors and there isn't a whole lot of digging to do.

I used the Mastering Windows Server 2012 R2 book and the MS Press Exam Ref book. I was able to setup a couple of servers in Hyper-V at work and lab a lot as well.

Thanks for the book references I just purchased some video training and was looking at books to supplement it. ;)

Well done! I passed this one about 2 months ago, it was hard. I just took and failed the 412, it will require alot of practice setting up all the labs.

Congrats. I'd go with the 409, but only on the basis of what people have been saying about 412. I guess it depends on how familiar you are with the objectives.

Congratulations on getting past the 411! I've personally found it MUCH harder then the 410, but I guess it's just because it's harder to setup some of the material covered in a lab. I've got mine scheduled for next Saturday!
