Passed N10-006!

SegoviaSegovia Member Posts: 119
Well, it has been a hectic week. I started my new job on Monday and due to my living so far away I am commuting about 3-4 hours a day and working for 9. I haven't quite figured out the most streamlined process for studying on the train but I'm sure I'll get better. Anyway the point is my studying time has been severely reduced. I'm lucky if I get 1 hour per day to study now, with more on the weekends.

I scored a 753/900 which is barely passing by 33 points. Total time between my last cert exam and this one was 25 days. And basically 5 of those days were subtracted completely. I am actually surprised I passed, even though I have a CCENT and a networking AAS degree. The material covered on this exam is so broad it's nuts.. And it is not a breeze like some other tests. It makes you think. The simulations are awkward and buggy, but the actual questions are pretty good. I'd say 75% of the regular questions I knew with a little bit of thought, a few were complete guesses.

It was also really hard to concentrate because they sat me next to an extremely beautiful girl. icon_redface.gif

    Congrats on the pass.

I've been wanting to take the exam but don't feel 100% ready. Like you said, the exam is very broad. My brother just took it this week but failed it only by about 20 points or something. He gets to retake it for free though. He's a veteran and it's being paid by the military.

I plan to take it no later than February 2016. I also with work have had limited study time. But every chance I get I am hitting the books, prof messer videos and practice exams.

    Whats next for you? CCNA?

    Thanks!

Yeah I think now the logical path I am taking will be ICND2 for CCNA, then go for Linux+.

The test is definitely a step up in difficulty from the A+. The way I see it now is this: know the basic concepts of all the exam objectives, while also getting into in depth troubleshooting. I think that's what hurt my score so much. The study materials don't really tell you how to figure out a problem with a network. Sure you know the troubleshooting steps and the basic fixes for some problems like cabling or duplex mismatches... But higher level problems are pretty hard to diagnose and aren't included in detail with most study programs. It's more of an inborn skill that you either have and can figure out, or that you know how the technology works but really haven't worked with it enough to be able to know why it's broken or how to fix it.
