First post... so here goes.

Currently my lab setup at home has 6 items. Im studying for the CCENT and CCNA both. ipv4 is something I'm already very comfortable with. I'm having difficulty figuring out what ios version I can put on these switches/routers. I know its not 15. I was under the impression previously I could put 12.2 50 on the switches or 12.4. Posting here to have more guidance if anyone has a chance to help me.

3550 switch C3550-224-SMI
2950 switch C2950g-48-EI

I'm only into all this for $100 with a lot of extra cards and cables so not too worried if I need to add a different switch or router. I'd greatly appreciate if anyone could help me with what versions of ios I could update those switches and routers with to make them more functional or adequate for the exam.

I don't understand the code in the 2950 IOS's as it's not the format I'm used to. However, all the others are, and from what I can see you have the top-end IOS's installed on everything, i.e. you have AdvancedEnterprise on your routers and IPServices on your 3550 switch. As a comparison my newer 2960 switch has the base 'LanBase' IOS, my 3560 switches the base 'IPBase' and my 2800 routers mostly the base 'SPServices' so I've got some upgrading to do, you've not!

Often the newer 60-series switches cost no more than your 50-series, and 18xx/28xx-series routers no more than your 26xx-series, so I generally don't understand why people buy (perfectly adequate) old kit when it's no cheaper, but sounds like you got a bargain.

like he said, your good to go with what you have. Just a few minor things that could be done. upgrade the ios on the 2691 to the same as on the xm's and changes it's config register. Put in a few more serial wics and start labbing.
if you have the ios, you could upgrade the xm with 48mb of flash and the 2691 to 12.4T. But, no big deal if you don't.
While this equipment is adequate for the ccna, you are going to need routers that run version 15 of the ios for any other cisco certs. So, if you are planning to do other certs, keep an eye out for inexpensive ones.
