Help: Configuring Router

Hello guys, ran into some trouble today, basically i am trying to get connectivity from my router. I created an ip address which was 192.168.1.20. subnet mask 255.255.255.0. All my lights on the router are on and green. My ethernet cable is connected from my pc to my switch and the lights are on as well. I go on cmd and i ping 192.168.1.20 and i get this.

Pinging 192.168.1.20 with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 192.168.1.20:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

I been researching online as well and i couldnt find anything useful. What i did notice was that once i opened up putty and tried to use SSH i was connected. I just forgot my username and password. Which was weird because i created an easy one. But it seems like it works.

So basically i was trying to SSH from a switch to the router. I know that the SSH is version 2, however the router how would i check? i tried using #router version but i dont see anything.

#show ip ssh. Router is version 2 as well as my switch which is version 2. Any other thoughts? Thanks!
