Where should I start

I have finnished my computer science degree 2 years ago and started my carreer as a developer in the financial industry. I would like to get into the infosec world but need to qualify myself. I did do undergrad security but I believe that does not cover even the basics. Where would a good starting point be? What would a good first certification be?

Try Security + it's a good place to start and you will get the foundations for the hardest certifications. Since you are a developer I would think it would also be easier for you to go the OSCP route. You need to be a lot more familiar with programming for that one.

Also any web pentest would be great because you already have developer background.

There's a real niche for malware obfuscation skills and secure coding, in general. Also, reverse-engineering buffer overflows and HTTP DOM hierarchical vulnerabilities. I think having a strong CS background helps immensely with IT Security since you understand the Ruby/Python/Java behind it all more in-depth. Add in C/C++ for low-level logic then BAM...you know quite a bit.

As for certifications, Security+ wouldn't be a bad start nor would the Cisco route with CCENT/CCNA. Good luck!
