SANS SEC566 (GCCC) Self Study - Journal

Hey !

So I have just signed up for the SEC566 Self Study on the SANS website. This is my first self study from SANS. I get access to the Audio Files and the Books ( Which are supposed to ship as soon as possible ). I also get an attempt at the newly released GCCC ( Released on the 30th of September ).

I hope to study as much as possible during the Christmas break and will post updates on this post.

Suggestions and advice is always welcome !

Does anyone know how long it takes for the books to be shipped out once the payment has been processed ?

Paid for it on Monday, got email yesterday with shipping info and access to online audio files, expected delivery for books is Friday.

So the access of Audio Files and the exam attempt have been received. The books should take a few more days! Excited to run through this course. I intend to spend 7 days and then run through a practice exam and then see where it goes. I have scheduled my exam for February towards the end of a project but might prepone it for January depending on how the first practice exam goes.

The course is as said by Garuda Min and in depth information / audit of the critical controls prescribed by the CyberSecurity Council.

It also for me helps me apply for the MSISE program. I am done with the GSEC and the GCIH. I have the GCCC and the GCIA to go. And a few others.

I would not do the course if I did not get the voucher for the free course. I had to pay only for the exam and the shipping.

Also, you can't publicly sell your material. I completely understand, you just can't do it publicly, here.

I am not selling my material. Its the price that I paid to SANS for it.

I apologize if I was unclear. I paid 719$ for the course and the material. I am not selling anything at all.

When I said hit me up. I meant about the voucher. If you wanted to or planned to do the course for a similar price.

I know that I should not sell the material and I have done 4 courses till now to learn that its illegal to do so.

It's against the SANS/GIAC licensing agreement, not against any governmental law, so people won't end up in jail for doing anything illicit or illegal. People violating the licensing agreement can have their GIAC cert(s) revoked and not be allowed to attend any SANS training or test for GIAC certifications--ever. I suppose SANS/GIAC could sue a license violator in civil court for damages if the violation were especially egregious...

True. Against the SANS licensing agreement with the end user. And not illegal.

That was just me trying to explain that I was not trying to sell anything.

I know this is an old thread, but interested if you took the course. Or has anyone else completed GCCC? I did the SANs Work Study for GCCC, but was interested in hearing more about the exam as compared to practice exams etc. There is a ton of material to cover and it is a relatively short exam 2hrs. This course has more books and materials than GSEC.

All you have to cover are the 20 controls. You do not have to cover the NIST guides and stuff. I did not attend any course. I had an upgrade coupon. This entitled me to the books, mp3 and the exam. I failed the first time. Re did the exam in a couple of weeks. I passed. I however did not spend as much as I did on my other SANS conquests.
