New to ITIL

So I want the ITIL under my belt, and I'm very new to it.

From what I gather, I need to pass 5 exams to be fully ITIL certified. The first one is Foundations. Foundations looks quite easy after watching some YT videos. Is this true?

Do you have any free training materials that are "very good". If it matters, I'm also CompTIA certified, and 1 MS cert too.

Hello JugglingReferee, if you are new to ITIL then the Foundation exam is where to start, and unless you plan to become a specialist in the field, where to stop for now in my view.

The ITIL Expert route is a huge amount of work and is best persued with you have quite a few year of experience of using it under your belt. The study alone will consume months of your time (full time) to complete all the modules so it is not something to go into unless you really want or need to.

You also need to do it through an accredited training provider which means it is likely to cost you or your employer many thousands of dollars (although there are one or two cheaper ways) to do these courses and sit the exams. You have to provide proof of training as part of booking the exam.

There are no free materials fit to get you through the exams (even the foundation one) but it doesn't need to be expensive - there are some books and courses discussed in this forum that will get you there for least cash. It will also depend on your ability to learn through self study too, since books are no good if you need a classroom environment to learn effectively.

What do you want to do with ITIL certification at the end of the day? If it is just to get a job then without experience to back it up, the Expert certification is not good value for you whereas Foundation will open doors for interviews and be very useful for everyday work in an IT dept.

Yes, I wish to use it for job applications. I've worked in IT for 10 years, and trying to get back into the field.

ITIL Foundations seems easy enough. I think I can study for a few weeks and then write the exam.

I believe the ITIL Foundations exam is the only exam that you can register and take on your own. For the other ITIL levels, you need to be sponsored. There are different paths you can take after that ITIL V3 Certification Path

The exam was surprisingly difficult. My score was exactly passing. The wording of the questions made it difficult for me.

Everyone said it was super easy and I know many who aren't the brightest passed it easily. I failed it at a 55%. I work in Service Desk Mgmt, took a class, read the Liz Galagher book, easily passed all the test exams out there, then sat for this back in May. I was totally lost, confusing and tricky. Questions like "What is bla bla bla, pick the best answerS" A B C D. So is that one or could it be 2, wait maybe 3.

I read someplace and could of been on here that they changed up the questions

it's not easy,but check the ITSM Technology online they provide the best Certification in PRINCE2 & ITIL.
