We use to use Spiceworks, however we've stopped using them as we're making the move to OPSmartdesk as it's FITS/ITIL combatible (version 2 is out later today).

I can just hear it now.

Wife: Honey, can you take out the trash?
Forsaken_GA: Did you submit a trouble ticket for that?
Wife: $#!@^#@ a trouble ticket! Take out the damn trash now!

At least that's how it would go in my house icon_lol.gif

yes and no. I use it as my to-do list, essentially. The main advantage for me is that if I think of a new task, I can just use the crackberry to email it in, and a ticket is generated automatically.

I find it very useful for long term tracking of projects, since pretty much every job I've ever had has involved using a ticketing system, it's something that I'm used to doing. It also helps keep me accountable to myself - it's hard to say I forgot to do something when it's staring me in the face. I have to work very hard to overcome my tendency to procrastinate.

Well, fortunately (or unfortunately, I guess it depends on perspective) I'm single. But yes, if that ever changes, the honeydew list will need to be submitted in ticket form.

Of course I can see that working against me as well. I can see a point where I'm looking forward to an offday and working on a personal project, and my ticket queue is flooded by 'priority' tickets.

And if I ever have kids, you bet your ass that they will be assigned tickets for their chores.

Years ago back in the days I worked on helpdesk, single and living alone in a skanky 1 room bedsit, I went home early one Friday feeling unwell but had caught the flu and temperature shot up over 100 later on that night. Overnight I got wrapped up in the quilt which made the problem even worse but I couldn't remove the quilt until the quilt told me it's asset number... By Sunday afternoon I had come around. Very weird weekend that.

Hrm, asset tracking for personal possessions... sounds like a new project! I wonder if the cost has gotten low enough for RFID use as well.... I'd always be able to find my keys!

    My sanity, otoh....

We're using Spiceworks. When I started here they just had me monitor a mailbox. I got fed up with that because it was too easy to lose track of something and more difficult to cover my butt. We've requested Track-It for going on 3 years now but our banking overlords continue to shoot down any big ticket budget items we request (terminal server upgrades to 2008 R2 being the latest victim).
