Critique My Resume

My resume has been looked at 3 times while on monster for the last 6 months, Obviosuly something within the resume isnt right. This is a copy of my old resume and i havent updated it since losing my previous job.

I would take the objective out. Also, don't show your cards by stating how much you want to earn. You never know if the company might offer more than you are willing to ask for.

would it be a good idea to remove work history that was irrelevant to I.T work on the resume

Yes. It's completely irrelevant when you are seeking an IT job.

You need to work on formatting a lot.

Nothing is uniform: Sometimes you use all caps for the sections, sometimes a ":" after, sometimes a new line after, ect. Make them all the same.

Also get it back down to one page. I don't think you have nearly enough listed to need 2 pages.

There are lots of small grammar and punctuation mistakes that you should correct.

A lot of companies will throw out resumes for simple spelling or grammar mistakes as well as formatting that doesn't look professional.

Put in a sentence or two more into each bullet point for the experience section. A prospective employer would love to know what you did when troubleshot and implemented networks. What did you exactly do with implementing networks, did you design them too? Did you configure any routing protocols, device placement? You configured laptops to domain, but did you troubleshoot any issues that arose? You get the idea, I (prospective employer) want to know more. A recruiter/prospective employer only has half a minute or so per resume, if you dont catch their attention in the first 10 seconds, the resume ends up in the dumpster.

Few things:

- "4 years experience" - the resume does not support that, at least how you have it worded right now.
- The last font has to go. Having looked at over a hundred resumes over the last couple of years I can tell you that font makes me want to not read your resume.
- You used "tampered". That word has a negative connotation implying malicious or improper alteration of something
- Header: name should be a bigger font. Address, phone etc. can fit in one line. No need to spread it out
- Any volunteer work you can list? If not, think about volunteering at a church, local club or something similar
- When you say Cisco routers, switches, etc. Do you mean you know Cisco IOS and can configure and/or troubleshoot a router? Please clarify. I've interviewed people who list Cisco experience when all they've done is rack it.

Setup and managed the company’s FTP Site and configured routing protocols so files could be shared within the Domain and accessible to company employees.

^ this just doesnt sound right to me. You dont configure routing within the FTP site. TBH, the configured routing protocols so people could share files part seems fishy to me. There's a whole lot more to routing protocols than file sharing. Reword and split the configured FTP site and the routing protocols into separate bullet points. Expand on what routing protocols, RIP/EIGRP/OSPF which ones?

I know someone who showed me their resume and they claimed to be an expert in Cisco networking even though they had zero work experience but had spent some time at the Cisco Net Acad! Didnt have a CCNA either!

Big red flag here, you should not put your salary requirements in the resume, lets say your talking with the company / recruiter for a job you could likely get and it pays 20$ + and believe me this could come up, they now know they can and should low ball you.

I agree tht was posted in my old resume. Ive concluded a new resume in the post previous to this one.

I'll be brutally honest here, so grab some salt to take with this.

 Configured Laptops to Domain so internet access could be accessible to employees.

You dont put laptops on the domain just so you can have the internet. I mean there's a whole lot of things you could do by putting a machine on the domain, not just the internet. How about troubleshooting folder access? Mailbox issues? Address conflicts? Printing? This is the kind of things you do by putting a machine on the domain, not just the internet. I dont know, the sentence you have feels out of whack, doesnt sink in. You need to fix this.

Sorry, but do you really know what FTP is? This is the impression I get by reading this. Reword this too please. FTP is generally used for transferring files between companies or sites, in simple terms.

 Maintained and diagnosed the company’s network issues such as server resets renewing and releasing IP Address.

Did you reset servers? Really? If you did that on a regular basis, did monkeys design the network? You dont renew a servers IP address just like you would do a workstation's. Again, reword.

Reword, reword, reword. I am sure you can write better. Take some time, see all the previous posts and come up with something worthy of the time we have been spending on this. Just being very honest, not harsh.
