What is the difference between Availability Mgmt and continuity mgmt, all i see is they both cover IT disruptions / Disasters.

But why 2 why can't they be just one module under service design?

I am planning on for ITIL Foundation.

Thank you all for helpful info.

    Hi there

The difference between these 2 processes is a common source of confusion - particularly at Foundation level.

It's important to understand the types of 'downtime' each process is planning for.

Availability Mgt deals with day to day service availability - how we make sure services meet business requirements, how we minimise downtime related to incidents etc.

ITSCM plans for extended downtime related to disasters - fire, flood type of scenario.

Although the 2 processes will work together and use some of the same techniques, the planning and process outputs are different. It's important to maintain them as 2 seperate processes so that resources can be assigned to them and their time is used effectively.
