What is good first GIAC cert to get?

JDMurray Admin Posts: 13,090 AdminThe GIAC certifications associated with the SANS 300- or 400-level training classes are typically where one starts. These would be the GSIF, GSEC, and GCFE. There are also many good SANS courses at the 400 level that do not have corresponding GIAC certifications.

laughing_man Member Posts: 84 ■■□□□□□□□□I would recommend the GSEC for a beginner. I have coworkers who have done the GSIF, and I can say that it appears to be Sec+ level material, but at SANS prices. So unless your employer is paying for this, I would go for GSEC of GCIH.

ipchain Member Posts: 297The decision as to which GIAC cert to pursue is ultimately up to you. If you're willing to spend ~$4000 to get certified, make sure you get the most bang for your buck by pursuing something that is closely aligned with what you do on a day-to-day basis.Every day hurts, the last one kills.
