USB to serial in Win 8 / 2012 x64

I bought a few adapter now claiming they are compatible, but they aren't. Can anyone suggest an adapter which 100% works on Win8/2012 x64 ?

This one has worked well for me Amazon.com: TRENDnet USB to RS-232 Serial Converter TU-S9 (White): Electronics, just reset a password on a Cisco ASA 5510 from my Surface with it the other day -

You can get the driver here PL-2303H / 2303HX / 2303HXD Drivers | Prolific USA though it should auto install -

I can 2nd the Trendnet cables and drivers. Ran into this same situation when Win 7 came out, and the only one that worked flawlessly was the ones from Trendnet. -
