USB to serial in Win 8 / 2012 x64

I bought a few adapter now claiming they are compatible, but they aren't. Can anyone suggest an adapter which 100% works on Win8/2012 x64 ?

You can get the driver here PL-2303H / 2303HX / 2303HXD Drivers | Prolific USA though it should auto install

I can 2nd the Trendnet cables and drivers. Ran into this same situation when Win 7 came out, and the only one that worked flawlessly was the ones from Trendnet.

The real question is why we still need serial to access devices in 2013.
