Great Job! I'm so jealous right now. -
GhostintheShell Member Posts: 34 ■■□□□□□□□□Well Lammle's book has been completed (Well the ICND2 section anyway). I'm hitting up all 200 video's now from Chris Bryant, then off to the labs, labs, and more labs. Test prepping after that. Hoping to hammer this bad boy out before the end of the month! (may Zeus help me!)
So, who has some good test prepping material? (Looking at you there Magic )"It's not over until I win!"

Congrats! I guess your method of study surprises even you! Didn't you feel under prepared?
I just spent the last hour trying to get a wireless antenna working on my server 2012 box (lab is going into the basement & I don't want to run cabling for it) only to find out I probably have to reload the OS to get it to work correctly -

Applying knowledge learned from a book has never been more satisfying! -
GhostintheShell Member Posts: 34 ■■□□□□□□□□Since I've been labbing, none of it has worked right the first time. I always seem to be troubleshooting an issue, but honestly, as frustrating as it is, I wouldn't have it any other way. There is satisfaction, albeit sometimes a sick satisfaction, when you are able to fix the issue from newly gained knowledge."It's not over until I win!"

--chris-- Member Posts: 1,518 ■■■■■□□□□□Why? What's the problem - explain it in more depth and i'm sure it can be solved?
Ill get a screen shot tonight and post it. I can't remember the specifics. -
--chris-- Member Posts: 1,518 ■■■■■□□□□□Installing the Win 8 X64 driver (no server 2012 driver, this is probably the closest) yields this error below:
Then navigating the the device manager and checking the status shows this:
This is on a Server 2012 R2 box, the device is a TP Link tl-wn722n wireless adapter. Any ideas on how to approach this? -
--chris-- Member Posts: 1,518 ■■■■■□□□□□My SSD's showed up in the mail and my wife neglected to tell me until after I posted the screen shots above. I pulled the disk drives out, put the SSD's in and loaded up 2008 R2 this time (since there was more support for that OS)....and I still have the same issue.Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
Working on it now...
edit:
I have been googling the Code 19 error and it seems pretty common for devices, and most fixes point to removing an upperfilter from the reg key for the device to fix the issue. The problem is I cant find any reference to indicate what reg key I need to look at.
I have also tried all the pertinent drivers from here:
http://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/?model=TL-WN722N&version=V1
And the universal driver for N series adapter. None work out of the box
I have no AV on this box, its a fresh install of 2008 R2 as of tonight with nothing enabled or installed beyond the standard bits for R2 enterprise.
AND I plug it into my Win8 work laptop, it loads the drivers automatically, configures itself and starts working with two clicks. At this point, I dont NEED to run server anything on this box as its only purpose is to let me RDP then telnet into my cisco equipment. If putting Win8 on the box gets me up and running then so be it...when I move onto the server stuff after the CCNA I will pick this up.
To summarize:
Wont work on:
Server 2012 R2
Server 2008 R2
Will work on:
Win8 -
--chris-- Member Posts: 1,518 ■■■■■□□□□□Found this while in bed....Windows Server 2008 R2 - NetGear WN111 Wireless-N300 USB adapter - Crazy Driver Error - Code 19 - NiTRiX-Reloaded.COMedit: Annnnndddd it works. That was the trick. I was thinking when I made that last edit about how it wont work on the servers but it works on the desktop OS, "there has to be something unique to the servers that is breaking this". I just didnt know what or if that thought was even correct. @XNX, I am certain you didnt mean it this way but I absolutly took your post as a challenge

GhostintheShell Member Posts: 34 ■■□□□□□□□□Kudos(config)#: Chris Bryant's videos are intelligibly awesome and detailed. Hands down thorough explanations and examples. Far, far more information, and superior, than CBT Nuggets.
Rant(config)#: His tangents of "I want you to see this." or "You don't need this for your NA, but I want to show it to you." is causing a great disturbance in The Force for me. Stay the path dude. I appreciate all of the info, but c'mon! I'm already stressed and then you want to show some s^*t about stuff I don't necessarily need for the exam....cause you know....I'm not already conf**ked enough?!?! Grrrr....

The thing about CB's tangents....is they are usually very useful lol. Once you run into an issue that you learned about because of one of his tangents, you will be glad you listened to them.
I listen to move of his stuff while driving, because I drive for my job this gives me 10+ hours a week to devote to his series. I lose the visual element but I use the videos to warm me up to the subject matter, terms, technology and theory. I use the books w/labbing to cement the ideas and tie everything together.
Works great! -

I truly do understand why he gives that extra info, and honestly, most of the time I don't mind. I was frustrated yesterday because absolutely nothing went right. I should know better than to study when I'm frustrated but I have a deadline. I will meet that deadline no matter what.
You're right Chris. I too am fortunate that I get to study at work for an obscene amount of time. It is handy when it comes to hours devoted to the material."It's not over until I win!"

Dont forget to practice that subnetting!

timesvan32 Member Posts: 79 ■■□□□□□□□□Indeed, I am trying to subnet at least 15 minutes per day, but I got the hang of it using a simple method. I am just open to reading alternative methods.

GhostintheShell Member Posts: 34 ■■□□□□□□□□Does anyone know that if I practice labs in PT and say I create configs in PT, is there a way I can go back and repeat the commands, say like STP, ospf, eigrp, etc and just keep constantly doing that over and over just reconfiguring without having to rebuild the entire configs over and over again?
Would it be best to just build core configs like ip address and stuff and then just not save the configs after initial save? Does this post even make sense?"It's not over until I win!"

--chris-- Member Posts: 1,518 ■■■■■□□□□□I dont know if PT is capable, but I know GNS3 is.
For my CCNA level purposes, is copy run start the same as write memory? I prefer simply wr like I seen in the CB videos, and googling says they are the same...but why does one require you specify a location to save to while the other just goes! -
--chris-- Member Posts: 1,518 ■■■■■□□□□□And it lives!
All my gear is now in the basement, cool and quiet. I now RDP into the server, then console into R1 where I can SSH into the other devices. I lost/forgot to purchase a 12" straight through so I have a 20' patch cable connecting my Router2 to Switch 2, but other than that its all set and everlasting is up and running.
Now I can focus on wearing out my kid all day so I can stay up late and lab -

I was just curious. I know GNS3 does but even after I set idle PC if I open 4 consoles my laptop essentially hangs for a bit. I was hoping pt did this. I may just have to create the pt topology save a Master topology and just Save As that lab. Oh well. Thanks for the response"It's not over until I win!"

Yah they are both the same command. write memory is old syntax.
copy command requires a location because it can be used for other things, like copying and ios from a tftp server to your flash memory.2019 Goals

--chris-- Member Posts: 1,518 ■■■■■□□□□□Thanks CI! I prefer WR, its just too easy
So I just had an epiphany, or moment of clarity. I listened to CB's frame relay section, and just now read the troubleshooting layer 3 networks section in Odom's book. When I run a traceroute command to a remote IP (like 8.8.8.8 for example) the frame relay switches/cloud are not shown in the traceroute command. Right? Because all of that is layer 2? -
GhostintheShell Member Posts: 34 ■■□□□□□□□□I am so burnt out right now. I have no desire to listen to, read, or lab about anything Cisco. I have hit my fill of acronyms. I have tried taking a break this weekend just vegging on the couch, doing other things, you know like going outside for 3 minutes (worst VR ever). My mind is consumed with this stuff though. Even when I'm taking a break my mind keeps telling me to hit the books and study, study, study!
What do you folks do to combat this?
BTW, I gave up on PT and GNS3. I'll use CLN for now. I can just reload config and keep chugging away..."It's not over until I win!"

I took a week break in the middle of my CCENT studies and resumed normal activities (played a few games, went out to lunch instead of studied, etc...). By the end of the week I was looking forward to picking things back up. I will skip a day here and there to do family stuff or work out if my schedule got messed up as well. -

I am at a bit of a loose end now, I don't want to commit to CCNP I definitely want a break first. Plus I don't have my own lab which I would definitely want for that level of study.
I don't want to do one of the other CCNAs because the general view is get the CCNP R&S first and it will make understanding it much easier.
There's no point in another vendor cert as my company is purely Cisco.
I would like to learn more about voice though, can anyone recommend any books?
