    Good luck!

I am at a bit of a loose end now, I don't want to commit to CCNP I definitely want a break first. Plus I don't have my own lab which I would definitely want for that level of study.

I don't want to do one of the other CCNAs because the general view is get the CCNP R&S first and it will make understanding it much easier.

There's no point in another vendor cert as my company is purely Cisco.

I would like to learn more about voice though, can anyone recommend any books?

The tcp/ip illustrated vol. 1-3 books come highly recommended for broadening your understanding of tcp/ip use.

So been studying for the last couple weeks and was actually really enjoying it. Then this week rolled around and I'm slacking... Just had no motivation to do anything the past couple days. I'm sure it will pass soon, just have to push through!

Figured posting would help get me back on track.

Where are you at in the book? Which book?

    I found this motivating:

    Dirty secret admission time!

I crammed a bit for the CCENT and now its coming back to bite me. I don't feel as confident as I would like on some of the basic topics (single area OSPF configs for me) so I am going back and labbing them. Anyone feel this way after passing part 1 of a two part exam?

I setup & broke a 4 router OSPF single area network on lunch today. I used the debug Ip ospf events command to look at the situation. What are some other ospf debug commands I could use for troubleshooting?

Thanks for the motivation Chris. I needed that.

    Dirty secret admission....

This exact scenario is happening to me as well....

I think working on the second half, which builds on the first half but adds complexity just makes you feel like you should really know part A inside and out before moving onto part B (if you want a fighting chance).

The good news (for me anyways) is I am enjoying the ICND2 studying more than I did the ICND1. The topics in ICND2 are really exciting for me, and actually make me think I should pursue a network focused career over the JOAT path I was working on.

If this keeps up I am thinking another CCNA:_ after this one :)

    Hi Guys,

First Time poster, Ive cancelled my ICND1 exam which was scheduled for Monday as I feel i am not quite there yet. I reckon i could scrape it, if im lucky but thought if i gave it another 2 weeks i will be ready

So, where I am struggling is practising the exams. I find I know the answer to 90% of the questions that i do BUT i tend to read them wrong sometimes & once I see the answer I think "AH!!! I KNEW THAT!!"

Now that I have done all the questions that i have available, I feel i am not reading the questions as I already know to choose B or D or whatever!!

Has anyone got any practice exams or pkt files that i can use?? would help alot!! ......I feel like a crackhead begging!! :)

Soooo what are you using to study? You mention that you would like pkt files. the Intense school has a lot of free packet tracer labs you can work through. I think in total I was able to download about 10 megs worth of them. Check here : Cisco CCNA Exam Prep - Lab Exercises and Practice Files

also check here for a chunk of packet tracer labs: Free Cisco Lab

I hope that helps. Sorry you had to cancel your test. Now knuckle down and pass that test!!!!!

I was looking at the ICND2 objectives trying to figure out how much frame relay is on the exam. I see two mentioned of it under the WAN section (15%).

What I want to know is should I purchase a router that I could set up as a frame relay switch or will knowing the config commands and the related show commands be good enough?

Hello guys, I'm happy to say that after almost 3 months of studying, I finally passed my CCENT yesterday :)

I passed with 894, I really wanted to get 900, but anyways a pass is a pass.

    This is the breakdown:
Operation of IP Data Networks 100 %
    Lan Switching Technologies 82 %
    IP addressing IPv4 and IPv6 100%
    IP Routing Technologies 79%
    IP Services 100 %
    Network Device Security 88 %
    Troubleshooting 71 %

I gotta say, that I was very nervous, I ended up not writing what I was thinking to write on the board (a table for subnetting) , 'cause I was afraid of timing, and you can only start writing on the board until you click on 'start', but I'm glad I nailed the IP addressing portion and I managed it to do it without any table :)

    Main Material:
    * Odom Wendell Book
    * CBT Nuggets
    * Boson Practice Test
    * Home Lab and Packet Tracer

    Review Material:
    * Chris Briant Udemy Course (I listened to some of these while I was driving)
    * Paul Browning - CCNA in 60 Days (I read this after I finished reading Odom Wendell's book, the layout is good, but it has too many typos and errors)

Ok guys I wish you the best in your studies... Now I have to start working on my ICND2, I really wanted to obtain both certifications before Summer ended, but I think I'm already a little bit late for that.
  • GhostintheShellGhostintheShell Member Posts: 34 ■■□□□□□□□□
Well took a couple of Transcender practice exams for school and got 80% on both. Still pushing the study, but with this being my first go at some practice exams, I think I'm off to a good start before next weekends test.

Unfortunately, I'll lose some study time this weekend as I'm upgrading my Domain Controller at work over the next couple of days. I'll make it Sunday and over the next week. I'll be ready. Nervous, but ready.

Not sure if anyone else noticed it, but recently subnetting.net just added some CCENT questions to their site. FREE CCENT questions with three different ways to three different ways to take them:

Learning Mode (Immediate feedback with explanations and learning points)

Quiz Mode (Feedback and review is provided at the end of the quiz)

Mock Exam Mode (60 Random Questions with feedback and review at the end)

I just went through a mock exam (I didn't do that well, still need to cover IPv6, OSPF, NAT & PAT), and it seems good. Gives you reasons why the right answers are right and the wrong ones wrong.

Looks like they are working on ICND2 questions next as they post it as CCNA Practice questions. They just have the ICND1 for right now though.

Also it seems they scramble the order of the answers around each time so you cannot just memorize "A, B, C, D".

I think the commands and the overall process should be fine dude.

If its anything like IPv6 or ACL's on ICND1 that it wont show up at all lol. Thanks for help.

I am working on banging out some parts of the etherchannel labs and I am stuck right at the beginning. I am using 2950's for the labs. SW1 has a fresh slate, no previous setup. I console in, issue the following commands:
    int rang f0/2 - 3
    no shut
    channel-group 1 mode on
    exit

At this point I get a syslog notification that shows f0/2 and 3 come up/up.

As soon as I console into SW2, I get a notifcation on that switch that the corresponding ports that were up/up (but not configured for etherchannel) are down/down. I apply the same commands to SW2 I pasted above, do a shut then a no shut to open the ports up and I get this in after issuing the show etherchannel summary command:
    Switch2#show etherchannel sumFlags: D - down P - in port-channel
    I - stand-alone s - suspended
    H - Hot-standby (LACP only)
    R - Layer3 S - Layer2
    u - unsuitable for bundling
U - in use f - failed to allocate aggregator
    d - default port

Number of channel-groups in use: 1
    Number of aggregators: 1

    Group Port-channel Protocol Ports
    +
    +
    +
    1 Po1(SD) - Fa0/2(D) Fa0/3(D)

I've tried removing the etherchannel instance by doing a "no" in front of the int command that enables it, then closing and reopening the ports but I am unable to get this come up and stay up.

the only thing I can think of is I am unsure if the cables I am using are cross overs or straights. Will 2950's auto detect this?

EDIT: N/M I am not certain what I did the first time around, but powercycling the switches without saving the configs then redoing this whole process gets it working. I must have done something to the conf to shut the ports....no idea what though.

After having to reschedule 3 times because of scheduling conflicts I am finally taking the ICND2 exam.
I feel pretty good this morning but for the last two weeks I was not at all confident.
Well see how it goes in a few hours.

I finished up the udemy series, for some reason the icnd2 videos seem to fly by compared to icnd1.

Im half way way through the odom book. The plan is to finish the book, complete my notes after reviewing each chapter then get the boson sims to see where I stand. Then get the lammle book and breeze through/enjoy that and lab lab lab from both books until I'm ready.

im on the fence about getting another 2950 for stp labbing. I feel like two switches are enough for the ccna. Thoughts?

    congrats Jon! Big time!
  • mikeybinecmikeybinec Member Posts: 484 ■■■□□□□□□□
I have three switches.. As for your question about STP and adding another switch. Well, you can do a sp vlan 10 root primary on one switch, a sp vlan 20 root primary on another, and the third will be your primary for the native vlan... Since i have another serial card (two more COM ports) i can watch all three converge..

    Indeed, and agreed.

The secret for me was lurking and stalking. Reading what others posted and learn from their experience to avoid some pitfalls. I highly recommend to anyone to take a day or 2 and just read through the group here and gather and collect, hunt and scavenge, and piece together their plan of study and attack. That was the key for me anyway.

I start the CCNA Security class on 9/21. I'm shooting for a test date of 11/15/14....
