what certs do you think will be useful for the next 5 years, not looking at any particular path but with the way tech is going what can you see a need for?

Security certs (CISSP, C|EH, CISM, CISA, CRISC, TOGAF, OSCP, Sec+) will remain in high demand, with ICS/PDC Security being a potentially lucrative niche

Virtualization (VMware, Azure, AWS)

Sharepoint (you wouldn't believe how hard of a time companies have hiring Sharepoint devs)

Systems/networking certs (Cisco, Microsoft, RH, Juniper, etc) will continue evolving with tech and remain valuable as long as you keep progressing

I second the above. Throw some GIAC certs in there and you're all set.

In a word...sort of, yea? As of SharePoint 2013, "they" have done away with the design view part of the SharePoint Designer. Microsoft said something to the effect of it became antiquated because it doesn't support things like HTML5, etc. So code only from now on. May be why it's so hard to find them, many used the visual part to do their stuff.

However, Expression Web is a workaround (for now) to have a view of interface during design that can be brought over into SharePoint.

I believe it will be a strong cert to have at some point; it's already almost a "must have" cert for DoD 8570 since it covers so much.

True this. I used to work for a company which makes one of the top rated Sharepoint tools. They were hiring all the time in the developer and technical support departments.

Correct. By ICS I was referring to industrial control systems. I meant PCD instead of PDC though, sorry for the typo. PCD - process control domain. PCD and SCADA systems are subsets of ICS.

I know lots of state and local governments that have migrated to Microsoft's Office 365.

Too bad there is no powershell certificate. Maybe 2016 Server will include a lot of that with the nano server being included as an option.

(ISC)2 has added a new cloud certification recently, that will likely be a big deal in the future.
