MCSA requirements - MS learning dashboard

Hello folks,

I’ve passed two exams so far - 74-409 and 70-410.

The Microsoft Learning dashboard tells me I’ve completed 70-410 but need to complete 70-411 and 70-412 to attain the MCSA, which is the standard MCSA track.

However, when I go into the certification planner, it tells me I’ve met two out of the three requirements for the MCSA - does anyone know whether the 74-409 Hyper-V exam actually counts towards the MCSA? I didn’t think it did!

Yeah, it's one of the 'secret' options. You can do 74-409 instead of 70-412.

If you go to the MCSA Server 2012 page, and click on additional options, it will show the substitutes allowed.

Same thing I did for my MCSA. Took the 74-409, 70-410 and 70-411. After completing your 70-411, you'll see "Congratulations! You have earned your: MCSA: Windows Server 2012" on your Microsoft dashboard.

Lovely, thanks. I've just found it on the MCSA site.

Rather chuffed with that! Some of the objects of 412 overlap with 412, so it's understand why MS allow you to substitute it.

I know it might seem pointless, but would anyone recommend taking 70-412 in addition to 409, from a "knowledge verification" point of view, especially as it'd come up on your transcript which might be useful for future employers.

Most employers won't care - they'll just want you to tick the MCSA box and then assume you are competent enough to be able to do the 412 stuff. The exam situation is different from real life where you have Google and colleagues.

Undoubtedly, there will be some employer who insists on a "proper" MCSA. I read on here last year about someone whose employer required them to take the 412 track. But probably not the kind of thing to worry about.

Yes, I'd like to know what your study materials were too. My main interest though is just how in-depth the exams goes into Hyper-V.

Yeah, I knew that there options out there, but didn't realize there was the 409 and also the 462.

That makes a lot of sense from a Lync/SfB perspective... if you will be heavy in On-Premise work, you could substitute the 462 exam for 412 in your MCSA, if you will be more Online focused, you could substitute the 346 exam for 412.
