Finally got into the Stanly CC Class-Additional Resources?

Hello All,

I got an email confirmation that I got into the March 2016 Stanly CC class. I realize the class has lectures and labs. I suppose what i'm wondering is what else would be beneficial in terms of study material? Thus far I've complied:

Mastering VMware vSphere 5.5 (Lowe & Marshall)

Did anyone use the Stanly CC course and the CBT Nuggets or Plural Site course, or is the Stanly CC course enough in depth to suffice for the exam?

Any other ideas/resources for those that have been through the course and passed are appreciated.

    Looks like that study guide isn't for VCP6-Data-center Virtualization. (DCV). I passed the Stanly CC class but haven't started to study for the exam yet. But I will use the Mastering book, blue print, and CBT most likely. Good-luck.

    I'm also on the March Stanly course. I have the same book, and blueprint. I'm putting together a home lab also for practice (server & shared storage / NAS). I got a free 6 month PluralSight subscription for signing up for a free Visual Studio account, they have a VMware 5.5 course, pretty good deal: https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/products/visual-studio-dev-essentials-vs.aspx

    • Stanley Community College - VCP-DCV VMware Course - VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage - Definately the best education deal for VMware, though unfortunately you need to go on a waiting list. For $200 you get the full online VMware Academy course as well as a 70% off Exam voucher. The labs are great and the instructors are great.


    Is the 70% exam discount still apart of the Stanly CC course?

    Does anyone know whether the purchase of their "required" book is mandatory? What I mean is, is the purchase transaction of the book somehow linked back to your course account, so that you will not be able to pass the course unless you have purchased the book (regardless of whether or not you even use it..) ?
    In another forum thread a Stanly rep has said "the book is required .. but we can't force you to buy it". That doesn't make sense to me. I mean they can't force us to complete the course requirements either ... but if we don't then obviously we fail. Is it the same with the book?

    The book is totally optional. I would argue there's little value in it and you better spend the money in other supplementary material.

    Thank you. From what others have said it doesn't sound like it's as good as "Mastering VMware vSphere 5.5". I have put my cash into this book instead.

    I have started my March 2016 course last week, so far so good, i have not purchased the book yet , I have the Scott Lowe book, Mastering VMware vSphere 5.5 book. Will this book will be enough for this course?

    Happy for someone to correct me, but from what I can gauge, you don't really need the books for the course, but you will need a decent book (such as the Lowe one) for the exam.

    I too am in the Mar-May Stanly course. As far as additional hands-on experience, I've been impressed with the CBT Nuggets course by Keith Barker. During the course you build your own lab.
