Qualys Certified Specialist

Just thought I would post a little about this cert as currently there isn't really much on the site.

I took a little diversion from my CEH studies to pick up this certification as my company uses Qualys products and started to ask for this cert in some jobs I might be interested in, the best part is it's free!

They offer some 1 day courses attended or remote, and they are soon releasing a self study option with the same materials. This includes access to their training environment as well.

The materials are good and explain how to use the product and the different steps in their vulnerability scanning cycle. The exam was not too bad although some questions I found quite tricky. They challenged your understanding of how to use the product. Another good thing though is it's open book so you can access their forum, help files, training material or the lab and work out what the right answer is, which I find more realistic to using the product.

Probably not for everyone, but sure some people would get benefit from this. Overall maybe 10 hrs or so study time and spent on the exam.

I did this several years ago and have to say that for being completely free, it's a great opportunity. If you physically attend they even provide lunch. Doesn't get any better than that.

I agree with @ franziskaner. The class was first class, taught by a CISSP and they provided a great lunch + snacks for the outrageous sum of $0.00.

I enjoyed it so much I went back for the advanced class, which was also free.

Is the exam/certif based on the first class 'Vulnerability Management' and/or 'Policy compliance and web application scanning' ?
Also notice ' Avanced vulnerabilitiy nagement'.

Thanks for the tip! I'm in a vulnerability management role at a global company and we use Qualys in-house. I sat in on Qualys training once (and they DID provide lunch!) but had no idea they have a free cert track. I live/breathe/eat/dream Qualys data and have reported several false positives, of which they have confirmed and updated their scanner signatures...you're welcome people across the globe!

Do you take the exam after the class? Did the class provide enough to pass the exam or was prestudying needed?

After the class but also you get 5 attempts so can do again from home. I had no real prior knowledge so everything is covered.

Seab, yes it is Vulnerability Management cert, they don't have exams for the other areas yet but there is training material.
