Career path for someone working closely with VMWare AirWatch?

Hello,

Currently working closely with VMWare AirWatch. Wondering what the best career path is for me at the moment. Since it's security related, should I start looking more into security?

Just because you work with this doesn't mean you must follow a security path. I worked closely with backups for many years but believe me, that wasn't my chosen path. Is security what YOU want to do?

I do like systems security and I'd like to learn more about defensive security. Is AirWatch a good starting point for a career in security? (sorry if you're unsure what AirWatch is, but it's VMWare's security and compliance tool).

I worked with AirWatch a few years ago, prior to VMware's purchase of them (which I didn't even know about until recently). There are many facets to security, and mobile device management is certainly one of them. If you like it, stick with it. If not, try to learn something else. There are lots of options out there!

We're mainly using it for laptops, so it's more systems security for us. Thanks man!

No problem! I was using it for phones to keep configuration baselines at the time, and SCCM for everything else.

Yeah, we're a smaller company, so SCCM is out of the question unfortunately. That's why AirWatch is going to be our main security tool for the time being.

I see myself doing more systems security, but I'd also like to learn defensive security, so I'll need to get my networking skills up.
