15 top paying certifications of 2016

Hello. I wanted to get a perspective of the best IT certifications to have. This is via https://www.globalknowledge.com/us-en/content/articles/top-paying-certifications/ My only experience with certifications is CompTIA Network +. And so far it is Cert that hasn't done anything for me. It truly isn't attractive to jobs nor does it separate you amongst others in stack of resumes. I find it interesting on this website that it says to be in demand for 70,000 a year. When out of 5 months of trying to advertise my resume with it I have received not even one bite. I am trying to unearth the veil of what is REALLY happening with certifications.

My Certifications

This is like saying women like guys that are nice, caring, sensitive, etc. However this is in addition to a bunch of other things that get left off the list.

Basically, the people who make those salaries are probably senior people who have collected a lot of certs over the course of their careers. Their entry level certs probably aren't applicable to their current salary, the experience that they gained over the career is the big driver of their salary.

We have "15 Top Paying Certifications" threads going back to 2011 (maybe further back... i'm too lazy to keep searching). All of them brought to you courtesy of Global Knowledge. I'm not going to spoil the fun and will let you look up those threads, unless someone else chimes in before.

To the point thomas_ makes, those senior guys like me would be listed under Network+ making six figures. That means absolutely nothing and is completely out of context.

Schools, training centers, and vendors like putting these lists out there so that they can get people to sign up. You might as well pick some random certs and just throw some random salaries out there. It'll probably be more accurate.

well i have A+, network+, and security+ and 10 years experience and don't even make the lowest rate listed (A+). unless you are willing to drive 1 hour away you will be lucky to make $60k around me with any certs

To get the sort of information people want you'd need the most recent certificate a person has achieved, and the salary they've most recently negotiated.

That way you could at least infer X certificate leads to Y salary.

You're not crazy. I also love the fact that CCNAs make more than CCNPs and almost as much as CCIEs :P

I see you are in Clarksville, have you tried looking in Nashville. Bunch of jobs there looking for N+.

I'm transitioning military and have been looking into software engineering jobs, infosec, and basic help desk positions. No bites so far. I've seen some positions here in Clarksville and not even a call back. I've been to a lot of military contracting sites and received a few initial queries. After i explain my resume they generally put me against other resumes and i receive nothing after that. I have come to realize that I need a more competitive resume.

btw, Certs make nice wallpaper! You can't take these surveys seriously. It really comes down to a range of skills or certs that employers are looking for.

I think this post is a lot more useful than top 15 lists: Timeline your career progression

It shows how people progressed in their careers, what they had when they got a job, and how much they got paid at that snapshot in time. It also assumes people are being honest, and it leaves out some information, but it's better than a biased list!

First off never believe anything coming from a training vendors mouth outside the instruction itself. Second, learn to search out and use an HR tool or tools referred affectionately as a "comp table"

Payscale is pretty good and for the most part free. Obviously, the best tables are going to be expensive and out of reach. Below is an example for the CISSP.
