Network Positions.....

Hello everyone,

I have recently achieved my CCNA which I am very proud of and I am current studying CCNP and looking to start a little Windows Server.

I'm also MTA: Windows Server Fundamentals certified (may be a little cert but I do have access to MCP when I go for MCSA)

I am having trouble finding a position for Networking. I am not sure if I am search for the wrong title? or my job board title is incorrect to what employers are searching for! or maybe my resume sucks?!?

I do have bout 3years doing Tier 1 support and my current employment is not wanting me to go any further (been here 2yr 7months)

So I must find employment that will....

I current have tried:

Entry-Level Network Administration
Jr Network Administrator
Help Desk
Desktop Support

but I haven't had any luck!

Can anyone give me some pointers on what is proper title to search or to be searched by employers?

Sounds like all four are terrible things to search for in your case. Try network engineer or just network administrator. Substitute network with server is you want to be on that side of the house. Literally typing in CCNA or CCNP yields accurate results as well.

I would even think Network Engineer would be to much of a push with just CCNA (assuming not much network experience?). Try looking for a NOC position with a ISP. Most people will praise what they get to learn there and carry on to a higher position.

I was hired as a network engineer with 12 months of IT experience and a CCNA (but I didn't do anything difficult for months), but you are probably right regardless. NOC jobs pop up when searching for network engineer though, still work a search I would say.

Remedymp, looks good but I am unable to relocate that far, I'm in Central Valley in CA. Thats why I feel like im doing something wrong as there are so many jobs around the Silicon Valley but I cant seem to get a interview. 9months ago I was getting interviews like crazy but lacked certifications. Now that I have some, I cant get anything!

I will try NOC searches!

You might try to search for a list of companies in your area based on number of employees. Look at their company specific job boards beginning with the company that has the most employees in you area. These are the companies that are most likely to have an opening for a networking position.

I was able to transition from a NOC tech role to a network engineer role after about 1.5-2 years. If you're not finding a neteng role right off the bat, perhaps it might be worth looking to solidify a NOC role first and then transition later.
