Just landed a "Security Analyst" position!

I am over the moon excited, for many reasons! Getting to implement Splunk, work with PBs of data, working from home 100%, SANs training....

I received the unofficial offer letter in an email yesterday after work. I will get the official one today from UPS, laptop & phone once that is signed next week, then my first day is the 29th of this month!

I come here not to brag, but to thank many people who have posted when I needed help and to thank the community for providing the insight & guidance I needed to get here. This community has been invaluable! Thank you, everyone!

Not too weird, i've had an official contract from UPS before. Sometimes the companies have deals with certain delivery companies.

Congrats on the gig! I personally didn't enjoy security analyst roles because you'll need to prepare yourself for hundreds and thousands of events coming into your ESM. But get the training, get the experience and move up the ladder!

Ha! Thanks again for the advice! Still can go pantless, although from what I have been told may not be the best idea for long term mental health.

Alright, here is my best abbreviated version.

It started in early December (last month). I received a google alert that a company I closely follow posted a coveted sec analyst role (Job opportunity #1). That same week I found out I was able to wrap up my BS in Info Sec a semester early. That meant I was now graduating in mid-December (last month, again). I updated linked in to reflect my newly acquired BS and applied to the job I received the google alert on.

Fast forward a week, I get a linkedin message from a recruiter for a different gig. I usually turn these down because they are mostly spam, for a temp job on the other side of the country. But this was from a lady in New York, she did not come off sales'y and actually appeared to have read more than my job title. I said why not and sent her my info.

I had one interview with this recruiter/company but I ended up stopping the interview process after the first interview because what they wanted to pay was what I make now. She understood and said she would keep me in mind for other things like this with a higher level of pay.

At this point I am interviewing for the first job I mentioned (all 3 interviews occur rapidly in about 7 days time), they make it clear they like me and tell me to hold on until the first week on January for a decision. I waited, first week of January went and past, nothing. I called the first company's interviewer I had been working with, left a VM requesting an update. She called back shortly after and let me know an internal candidate had been selected and that I was "2nd" in line (If you buy that). She said they had another one of these positions openeing up soon and they wanted to start with me when that opens up. I agreed but feel like that might not happen because the manager I interviewed with said "I hope..." and "if that position opens up...".

Moving back to the recruiter who contacted me via linkedin. She emailed me out of the blue and said "hey remember that job you said was nice but under your expected pay? They bumped the pay range up and want to talk to you again.". At that point I had a call with HR (screen), a call with the department lead (director of info sec) then a call with the Senior manager of IT then a call with all three of them. An offer came in a few days after that (Friday last week), which I accepted and the paper work showed up last weekend. I send it in today to make it official.

Pfeww...best I could do to condense it down.

The first job was something I have been looking at for 3 years, it never opened up. When it did open up, I had to apply because its very close to where I live and allows some WFH (plus getting my foot in the door into info sec). Then the recruiter entered the picture and I got a surprise from that!

C|EH bringing it home. The analysis I showed about a year ago indicated employers love this certification.

One well placed certification is > a bunch of certifications in the same space. Plus you save money and time!

That sounds like the perfect job--remote and training. I am curious about what the title actually is to help me search for similar roles. It is hard to break into security when every Security Analyst role I see has a high demand for security experience.

Exactly. It seems like that is a common requirement for these positions.

Official title is information security analyst. The previous role was called information security specialist. HtH
