VPC6-DCV Requirements

Hi guys,Below is the path for those who are new to VMware Virtualization Technology.

Path 1: If You are new to VMware Data Center Virtualization technology

1: Gain experience with vSphere 6 (minimum 6 months recommended).

2: Attend one of the required training courses.

3: Complete the vSphere 6 Foundations Exam

Single and Multiple Choice, Non-Proctored

4: Complete the VMware Certified Professional 6 – Data Center Virtualization Exam

In regards to point #2 does it mean that if I don't attend one of the required training courses I won't be eligible to take 2V0-621 exam for VCP6-DCV certification? Thanks.

You could still do the exams, but no - you won't get the certification. All VCPs have a "hard" training requirement.

The training is available via commercial training companies (VATCs), and some educational establishments (VITAs) - with a VATC you'll do the training within 1 week, with a VITA it will take usually 8+ weeks and you'll pay for the training yourself.

Probably the most popular VITA on here is Stanly CC - they offer the training online - have a browse/search through other posts in this board.

There are so many options, so, how will i know which one is suitable for me? Does it matter which country I attend one of those courses in?

The country does not matter.

Which course is the best one for you? Depends on your existing knowledge, and what you want to learn - a course aligned closer to the exams, or more specific product knowledge.

VITAs will only offer the ICM, and possibly O&S - whereas VATCs should have the full range of courses.

For exam alignment, ICM is recommended for vSphere Foundations, and O&S is recommended for the VCP6-DCV exam.

Each course page has an outline of what's covered, and any pre-requisites.

So, it seems that studying at VATC is more advantageous than in VITA, or it doesn't matter? Also, could you please explain in more detail the process of getting VCP6-DCV certified. For example, let's imagine I succesuflly atttended one of requied training courses. How VMware certification system will know that I finished the courses and hence eligible for certification provided I pass the 2V0-621 exam? Will there any record about it?

VITAs have a definite advantage over VATCs when it comes to price, and some people prefer the more gradual learning that a VITA class gives you rather than 5 intensive days.

The "process" for you is just as you posted at the top - take the training, pass the exams.

How VMware recognise you did your training is something else that's different between a VITA and a VATC. VITAs issue you a special type of exam voucher when you finish your course, so you'll take what's called the "PSE" versions of the exams - whereas VATCs have a registration process with VMware for their classes. But that's taken care of for you, whichever type of training institute you use, so don't worry about that.

). I have no hands-on experience with vSphere technology in production environment. Just have been playing around for one month with this product in VMware Workstation. is there any sense for me to enroll the course for VCP6-DCV training?

I would recommend taking some of the vSphere HOLs: VMware Learning Platform

If the system you're running Workstation on has enough RAM, build out a vSphere lab in a bunch of VMs and start to play with the things covered on the ICM class.

I think you can still become a VCP6-DCV without training by first obtaining the VCP6-NV which allows a waiver for the class requirement with your CCNA.

CCNA --> VCP6 Foundations Exam --> VCP6-NV exam --> VCP6-DCV exam.

Aha, I didn't see you were a CCNA.

So yes, you have the option to bypass the class requirement for VCP6-NV.

I am a little bit confused with VPC6-DCV exam and hop you are able to clarify it. What exactly exam is required to be taken 2v0-621 or 2v0-621d? And what is the difference between VMware Certified Professional 6 – Data Center Virtualization Delta Exam and VMware Certified Professional 6 – Data Center Virtualization Exam

621 is the VCP6-DCV exam, and 621 is the VCP6-DCV delta exam.

621D is only for VCP5-DCV holders who want to update to VCP6-DCV (and renew their VCP5-DCV).

621D has fewer questions, and has questions on things that have changed from vSphere 5 to vSphere 6.

Correct, as I mentioned 621D is ONLY for VCP5-DCV holders.

Look through all the requirements paths on the VCP6-DCV page, and the only path that includes the delta exam is the "current VCP5-DCV holder" path - all the other paths refer to the regular 621 exam.

Hi I have just now passed the VCP6-DCV exam, but anyhow didn't attended the official class from VMWARE. If in case, now I attend the official class for VCP6-DCV, can I get the certification.
I have passed the exam on 16th Jan, 2017 and once I asked the vmware team to share the certificate, they asked me for the Class ID, and with this query I went to my trainer, then he said I need to attend the Official class from vmware. Now I in doubt if I do attend the class after I have passed the exam, will I be able to get the certificate?

I replied to the email you sent me.

You have currently met 1 of the 3 requirements - you'll also need to pass the vSphere Foundations exam, and take authorised training - but can meet the 3 requirements in any order.

I think vSphere will get to v7 before the VCP6-DCV exams retire - that's based on the past, nothing more.

But, if I was starting now, and had the choice between VCP6-DCV and VCP6.5-DCV - I'd rather have the latter on my CV.

As you know (I think you know

) that Cisco Associate-level and Professional-level certifications are valid for three years.
If one doesn't recertify, the certification expires and becomes invalid.
Does VMware certification policy have something similar for Professional-level certifications?

VCPs expire after 2 years unless recertified.
