Next Certification Recommendation... MCSA Cloud Platform...

Hey everyone,

I just passed the COMPTIA Security+ exam last week and want to jump into studying for another certification. So what I really want to get into now is the MCSA Cloud Platform certification. On Microsoft's website, it says you have to pass two exams out of the 70-532, 70-533, 70-535, and 70-537. I really don't have to much experience with the Cloud Platform, so what I really want to know is from your experience, what are the best two exams to take? And in what order? Also for those exams, do you recommend any study material I should definitely get. I am fairly new to this forum and hope your past experiences can steer me in the right direction! THANKS!!!

First, congrats on your security plus. I replied to your PM earlier, but after reading this post, I’d like to amend my reply. These tests assume a lot of prior OS/Network knowledge. If you don’t have a lot of experience, I’d recommend doing the MCSA Server 2016 first.

Yes, I was thinking of that as well. Now what's the best study material for those exams? And if i'm not mistaken, there are 3 exams to get your MCSA correct? Also, if I pass one of those exams, do I become a MCP?

Agreed on understanding a Windows OS at the MCSA level, preferably the server OS vs. the client.

Server 2012 or 2016 MCSA = 3 exams.
Win 10 MCSA = 2 exams.

(1) of either track will give you an MCP.

As I said in the other thread, I used CBT Nuggets and Pluralsight to pass my 70-740 exam first time round. Pluralsight has an autolab script which will setup the labs for you but I built mine from scratch to get familiar with Hyper-V.

I also discovered this https://www.edx.org/course?search_query=server+2016 when doing my 70-741 and now 70-742. You will find many of the objectives around all the exams cover there.

If you pass all three 70-740, 70-741 and 70-742 then you automatically get MCP as well as the MCSA in Server 2016 Cert but you will not get MCP just by passing one of the three exams.

Check your transcript. Your MCP should coincide with the first 70-xxx exam you took. It does with mine. Even if you never completed the MCSA, you'd have the MCP.

Not with mine. When it came to passing my 70-740 I got nothing

but is that because I already have an MCP from Windows 10 perhaps.

It should coincide with the first of the Windows 10 exam you took, unless you had a current MCP going into that from a previous technology. You only get the MCP once, and then subsequent exams you get nothing for each exam until you get all the exams required for the next higher cert you are after- so that part is correct. I agree though, it was a bummer nailing 740, 741 and getting squat for those

Right that makes sense now. I wont see anything then until I pass my 70-742

My friend who did Server 2008 said back then you got an cert for every exam you passed. Then they changed it because people complained about making their transcript look messy

So they changed it later for Server 2012 and after.

My mcp was still there from my first XP exam. (*flexes in mirror, strokes grey in beard*)

My first ever MCP was on XP too. It does still show on my transcript but was moved down the transcript to "legacy Microsoft certification" status, along with Server 2003. When I did 70-698 for the Win 10 MCSA last fall, it was re-issued in "active Microsoft certification" status along with my current certs, so it actually does appear twice on my transcript. Does your transcript show two MCP entries (one for XP back in the stone ages

, and another more recent one when you did your 1st Azure exam (assuming that was your most recent)? If you had active MS certs in between I suppose your MCP might have been "active" the whole time.

Back to the OP's inquiry, your PM asked about the CP & I MCSE, though your question states MCSA cloud. I'm making the assumption you actually want the MCSE, so ignore the Win 10 track as that won't get you there, that was just a suggestion if you were looking to brush up on MS OS skills- I originally assumed you wanted to do the entire Cloud track like Ertaz did.
