GNS3 7200 multilayer switch

Hello All,

Anybody here use GNS3 for network simulator ?

I know that I can use 3640 IOS in GNS3 as a multilayer switch, but when I tried to load 7200 IOS, It wasn't successful.
When I tried to create VLAN, I had to use command "database vlan", and It was different than the commend "(config) vlan [vlan_number]" as I used on my job.

I tried to simulate real 7200 core router with multiple module and switching capabilities.
For example: "show module", "show int status", "show firewall vlan-group", etc
I didn't let me use "show module" command

Any suggestions ?

Have you configured the 7200 with the modules your require and the correct memory size that they need?

Are you using the same IOS as you are at work? My 7200s do not except the "show module" command running 12.2. Try show inventory which will give you similar output. Also are you sure you are not trying to use "show int stats" and not status?

It sounds like you are probably using a 7600 at work.

When I do "show module", It will give me all the available module including firewall fwsm module..
Can I simulate this on GNS3 / dynamips ?

That isn't a 7200, that is a 7600 you are working on there. You can not simulate a 7600 in Dynamips.

How did you know It was a 7600 ?
I saw on the box it said "Cisco catalyst 6500 series"

s72033_rp is a 720 sup.

6500 is the switch version of the chassis. It isn't supported.

Like tiersten said that is for a sup 720 so I just figured it was a 7600 since you thought it to be 7200.

show version did not show 7600s on it

The 7600 router chassis and 6500 switch chassis are basically the same piece of hardware. The EEPROM inside however differentiates it. At one point they were interchangeable and you could use the switch chassis as a router chassis. However Cisco eventually started making modules and IOS versions that only work in a specific type. Complain to the relevant BUs.

What you have is a 6500 chassis with a SUP720 inside it. You can't emulate this with GNS3/dynamips. It just isn't supported.
