Recieved Certificate, Very angry !

I've just received my A+ Certificate from CompTIA and on the bottom it states "This Exam Will Be Current Through December 2009"

Great, so i've just spent Hundreds of £'s in exam fees for an qualification thats only valid for the next 8 months, and then i'll pay AGAIN to have to retake them.

Is that correct ?

No Comptia certifications are for life, there is no renewal needed.

I can't really help you with that because i'm waiting for my A+ certification too.

But if i quote you, it's say "This Exam Will Be Current Through December 2009".

I think they just want to tell you that they exam you did will be available until December 2009 for people who want to do it.

I heard we don't know renewal for that certification, i'm correct?

I hear you, but when i go for a job interview a couple of years from now and they look at the certificate, i can forsee me having to spend 10 mins trying to convince them that the certficate is still valid and it's 'just the way its worded', i can do without that as i'm sure it won't make me look very good.

In my experience I've never had an employer ask to look at my actual certificates. If one ever does ask to look at your certificate and they raise any questions direct them to this PDF from comptia: http://certification.comptia.org/instructors/docs/commonlyaskedquestions.pdf

Specifically point out this question,

How long will the certification be Valid?
CompTIA certifications are lifetime credentials. They do not expire.

Yeah, or you can log onto your CompTIA CareerID and have them email a verification of your certifications to the employer.

No one will ask you for your certificate. If they want proof, you'll get a copy of your transcript and submit that to them, certificates can be faked...well, for that matter, most things can be.

CompTIA certs are for life. End of story.

Call CompTIA and ask them to explain it, but it should just mean that you took the exam during 2009.

If the best you can do a couple of years from now is show off an A+ cert, you're doing something wrong!

it just means that the EXAMS are expired , like upgraded to 2009 objectives

In a couple of years from now you should have a couple of years experience. No one is going to ask some one with a couple of years experience to show an A+ cert. The only exception I can possibly come up with is that you REALLY like to build and fix physical systems so much that you do not want to move forward in IT AND you ae applying for a job in a shop that wishes to hang a CompTia Authorized Service Center sign in their window. In which case they will already know that the A+ cert is forever.

Either way, I don't think you have much to worry about. Good job on getting the cert. I am sure that it will open doors for you early in your career. It is useful for that. I just hope those doors lead to greater things and more advanced certs.

I've never been asked to show my certifications even though I had them on-hand just in case they were to ask during the interview. Usually what happens is that they drill you right then and there with knowledge/experience based questions to see if you really do know what you are supposed to know. That in itself is the true test of whether you earned your cert via study and experience, or whether the candidate dumped. Rest assured, you'll be fine. Move onto the next cert!

I've never been asked to show any of my Comptia transcripts, however at one job interview they wanted me to bring my MS transcript. Not sure why? they didn't even look it.

you can always carry around your A+ card if you want to have something physical to show as proof of your accomplishment while they await the verification email from CompTIA - they're easier to carry around than certificates and while not the most sturdy cards, they're certainly less vulnerable to bends/creases/destruction than the paper certs...
