Confusion on exact exams to take

Hey everyone ,

I became an MCDST two weeks ago it was long over do but I've been rocking unemployment for 7 months and had more important bills and stuff.

ANYWAY I'm very confused on what exams I need to take

I know 70-290 and 70-291 are required

I'm currently studying for my 70-261 I know that wipes out the 620 requirement now because I'm an MCDST and took the 70-271,272 does that wipe out the 70-270 requirement? can I just do the 290,291 tests and be an MCSA?

Thank you for your help

MCDST counts as the elective, but I see no evidence that 271 or 272 counts for the client exam. Your choices are 270, 620, or 621. Check your certification planner at https://mcp.microsoft.com/mcp/tools/CertificationsInProgress.aspx for the exact list.

270 only goes towards the 2003 track.

620 gets you MCTS:Vista Config and on the 2008 tracks.

621 gets you the MCTS and MCITP:Enterprise Support Technician.

OMG that Cert tracker is terrible and very hard to understand. Thank you for replying, I'm currentlly studying my 70-621 to get the MCTS and MCITP certs along the way. I'm still not 100% on the exact exams I should be studying for.

Thanks so far for the replies.

Yeah, should of mentioned it takes a while staring at the tracker before the headaches stop. It is good for finding the oddball requirements such as the 621 which aren't listed on the usual web pages.

One trick with the tracker is it will overlap some exams. Such as some tracks for MCSE 2003 show three electives required instead of one. The client and design exams are listed in their own sections and as electives. It is great for finding that one last exam needed such as in your case.
